According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft landed safely in Boston at approximately 2:00 p.m. after the crew declared an in-flight medical emergency.
Passengers Describe ‘Violent Swerving’ and Cockpit Chaos
While the plane landed safely, those on board experienced a chaotic and frightening ordeal.
Reports from ABC7 detail a dramatic sequence of events in the cabin:
-
Passengers noticed the aircraft begin to “violently swerve” mid-flight.
-
Flight attendants quickly rushed to the front of the cabin, pulling one of the pilots out of the cockpit.
-
Nearby passengers stepped in to assist the cabin crew in managing the situation and tending to the incapacitated pilot.
First Officer Takes Control for Safe Landing
With the captain or co-pilot sidelined, the flight’s first officer successfully took full control of the aircraft.
Navigating through the emergency, the remaining pilot managed to safely stabilize the plane and guide it into Boston Logan International Airport without further incident. Upon arrival, the affected pilot was immediately met by emergency responders and transferred to a local hospital to receive medical attention.
Neither the FAA nor Air Canada have released further specifics regarding the pilot’s current condition or the exact nature of the medical crisis.
