“We have had a number of Somerville NW and SE uses on Sunday afternoons this
year. Any use would be subject to being checked with me on Friday to
confirm if still available and which field.”

I am not sure what you are saying. Can we are can we not have fields. I do
not understand why I league that is now 25 years old and is part of the
community cannot get fields.
Richard
The Church league has been around for 25 years .Clearly this is no way to run a season . But the bigger question remains who is using all the taxpayer funded fields 24/7 in the Village of Ridgewood . Who are these people playing sports into the late hours and where do they come from? Why does the Village really have a filed shortage ? Who decides who plays and who does not and who screens who is playing to begin with?
And why has the town allowed Vets Field to be destroyed and people going to Village Hall or the library to face “Park at your own risk” signs in the parking lot? Shameful.
We pay for the fields but we cannot use them?
This does not show that we need more firlds. It shows that the village parks and rec needs to recognize that there is more to life than youth sports.
I noticed that we started a preschool kickball league. Where does it stop? Play in your yard (street) with the neighbors.
Who heads parks and rec committee? Is he running for council this year?
Fast Eddie has had this job for 25 years….Field Czar for life !
Ridgewood Men’s softball league was dismantled a few years ago when they did away with BFMS fields.
1:34 – Wrong.
The league has played at Somerville and Hawes after BFMS was converted into a soccer facility with a track circling around it.
There are plenty of 46 by 60 diamonds in town….Eddie just feels like being a tool.
I guess the mayor isn’t playing on one of the teams this year! No problem securing fields the last couple of years. Ed has no one to answer to this season.
3:17 – wrong.. the Ridgewood men’s softball league was disbanded after BFMS track went in. They used to play at Stevens or Maple. They were told those fields were needed for the kids. Lots of guys went to other leagues in other towns. I played in the that league and I know what happened. Please don’t make things up.
Why are all the village assets focused on children?
After all the field development we can’t find the space for an adult league? The very people who are paying the taxes.
We have rec and travel teams for every sport. Even some extra private club teams. We installed lights on turf fields so that the kids can have access from morning till dark. And still the youth sports people are whining about field availability. If we develop Schi dler the sports guy will fill it with more players.
What is next, an elite 1st grade travel T-ball team?
10:12 . Mount Carmel beat Temple Beth El in the final last year at Hawes. You missed a good game.
Temple Israel and Jewish Community Center of Ridgewood not Beth El was the opponent. (Temple Israel was in the finals for the 2nd year in a row I might add…)
Last year the following Denominations were represented in the Church League:
Temple Isreal, Temple Orr, Mount Carmel, RW Methodist, West Side Presby, Presentation (USR), The Vineyard, Unitarians, Beth Lutheran and the KofC (Mount Carmel).
6:14- You mean there is no “elite 1st grade travel T-ball team ?” My God, how did that happen !?!
7:54 – you are referring to the church league. I am referring to the disbanded Ridgewood Men’s Softball League (the police had a team,, the fire department had a lot of guys on “The Villagers”, guys from DPW on “:The Mafia”, Ken Smith, etc.). You missed some great games .
7:54 – I am talking about the disbanded Ridgewood Men’s Softball League NOT the church league. Guys from the RPD (the Bullets), RFD (“The Villagers”), DPW (“The Mafia), Ken Smith, etc. You missed a lot of really good games.
McMurphys had a team in that league too. And.possibly Feeney. Great league, lots of.fun but they got pushed out. Each year the.men’s league got less and less field time and eventually, no field time. Do the HSAs still have a league for the moms?
I didn’t know that the Sunday morning league died…this is Fast Eddie’s trickery, tell people that we don’t have enough fields.
This guy has made decisions on field use for 25 years…at what point does he get replaced…?
He may or not be getting paid for this role…but the position does wield a lot of power…how hard can it be to maintain a spreadsheet…?
Would it not make sense to rotate the position with a 2 or 3 year term…?
Paulie A, not to be confused with our real mayor, Paulie V, played for the Temple last year. Should be interesting to see if Eddie will cave and let the Church League finally start their 2016 season.
