Ridgewood NJ, a 2015 Chevy Corvette was reportedly destroyed in a fire that heavily damaged the detached garage of a single family home located in the 100 block of Ackerman Avenue, Ridgewood early Saturday evening, 04/22. A brand new BMW SUV and a snowblower were both safely removed from the garage after the property owner noticed smoke coming from the structure. Ridgewood firefighters extinguished the conflagration shortly after their arrival. No injuries were evident at the scene. Unconfirmed reports indicate the Corvette’s battery was being trickle charged at the time of the fire. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel also responded to the incident.

  1. what a mess

  2. So the moral is don’t trickle charge, whatever that means?

    1. its a battery ‘tender’. keeps battery charged in vehicles that don’t get used much. I am surprised that it is pointed to as the cause, since they are 12v DC/
I have plug in battery tenders for the car i rarely use, and solar battery tenders on my boat.

  3. Looking forward to the massive and frequent Lithium-Ion Battery fires as more and more electric cars (aka hazardous Lithium Bombs) are stored in garages across the village.

    1. Except they are not frequent.

      1. Sure they are.

No matter how you measure it – In absolute numbers or per 1,000 registered vehicles – the number and frequency of spontaneous vehicle fires in Electric vehicles massively outnumbers the number of spontaneous vehicle fires in gasoline or diesel vehicles.

      2. Lithium battery fires are so hazardous, the favored course of action by fire departments is to “stand back and watch”.

    __________

The detached garage will presumably be coming back into fashion, as a safety precaution?

  5. not an electric car
