Ridgewood NJ, interested in giving back to the Ridgewood Community, passing on your baseball/softball knowledge and skills, getting to know and inspire some of the younger baseball and softball players, all
while having fun and earning money? ($25 a game) RBSA is recruiting 7th -12th graders for their Jr Umpires Program.
Jr Umpires umpire at Rec Minors Softball (3rd /4th graders) and Rec Baseball (3 rd graders) games. At this level, play is still very instructional with a focus on the fundamentals and
rules of the game, so no need to be intimidated. Coaches and parents at this level understand that Jr Umpires are not trained, carded umpires. Jr Umpires have three jobs:

1.Call balls and strikes, and outs on the base paths.
2. Help out or give advice to the younger players. (Young players really look up to the older
teens who are umping their game.)
3. Have fun

There will be two training/informational sessions at the end of March/early April. All Jr Umpires must attend one of the sessions. You will learn the basic rules of calling balls and strikes and outs in the base path as well as how to manage & call a game at this level. RBSA is looking for responsible, dependable 7-12 th graders with a positive attitude, a willingness to be a role model for our younger players, and an ability to assert themselves in the Jr. Umpire position while managing an important job on the field.
Please sign up on Community Pass at register.communitypass.net/Ridgewood. Registration can be found within RBSA -Spring Recreation- Jr Umpires registration. This truly is a great experience for all involved- Jr Umpires and the Minors Softball 3rd and 4th grade and 3 rd grade baseball players.

Up the ante
$40
Spend some of the Schedler money on the kids. $25 just not worth it.
These kids don’t want to start working “at the bottom”.
They are entitled to start working as the RBSA president!
The reason for the need of “junior umpires” is the same as for soccer referees. These young men and women are abused by the parents of the players. The constant harassment is both intimidating and abusive.
