Close Call: Sedan Jumps Sidewalk, Smashes Into Garden Center Retaining Wall
MIDLAND PARK, NJ — A dramatic afternoon crash on Goffle Road gave local shoppers and business owners a massive scare on Thursday, July 16, 2026. According to emergency responders, a black Nissan Altima four-door sedan was traveling southbound on Goffle Road when the driver suddenly lost control. The vehicle jumped the curb, crossed entirely over the pedestrian sidewalk, and slammed directly into a local garden center’s stone retaining wall.
The momentum of the crash carried the sedan into a fully loaded outdoor display shelving unit, scattering merchandise and causing significant property damage before the vehicle finally ground to a halt.
Emergency Crews Rush to the Goffle Road Crash Scene
Despite the violent nature of the impact, local officials confirmed there were no injuries reported in connection with the crash. Both the driver and bystanders in the busy shopping area managed to escape unscathed.
The Midland Park Police Department (PD) arrived quickly to secure the scene, direct traffic around the wreck, and investigate the cause of the accident.
Shortly after, volunteers from the Midland Park Fire Department (FD) were dispatched to handle a minor, crash-related fluid spill leaking from the heavily damaged Nissan. Firefighters quickly contained and mitigated the spill to prevent any environmental hazards near the garden center’s plants and displays.
A local flatbed tow truck was called to the scene to hoist and remove the disabled sedan, clearing the sidewalk and allowing the garden center to begin assessing the damage to their retaining wall and inventory.
