Ridgewood NJ, while the Murphy Administration continues to backpedal on creepy the “Sex Ed” curriculum Dr. Gorman continued to promote for Ridgewood Schools at Monday night Ridgewood Board of Education Meeting :
The health and wellness curriculum is being reviewed this year through the five-year curriculum cycle. As part of this process, new standards and resources are examined; then, curriculum writing takes place over the summer. The revised curriculum will be available on our website through our online curriculum platform, Rubicon, where parents can view the content, skills, essential questions, enduring understandings, and standards that will be used. Due to the nature of this content, some specifics about resources will also be available. The district’s teachers are highly-trained professionals who have some autonomy and flexibility in the classroom; therefore, lesson plans are not scripted. Teachers can pull from a variety of resources to develop lessons that align with the standards. Additionally, sensitive topics are always addressed on a grade-appropriate level. The revised curriculum will be presented to the Board Curriculum Committee and approved at a Board of Education meeting at the end of August. Governor Murphy has asked the Department of Education to re-examine some of the revised indicators for the upcoming school year. Once clarification on these revised standards is available, the district will review them as part of the five-year curriculum cycle. If parents have specific concerns beyond the published curriculum, they can reach out to teachers to ask questions and talk through topics. Parents can also view the 2020 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Comprehensive Health and Physical Education on the NJDOE website.
Parents should familiarize themselves with Amaze.org, Advocates for Youth and Answer at Rutgers are partners with Siecus.org which is Sex Ed for Social Change. Siecus partnered with advocates for Youth and Answer to create the Future of Sex Education which focuses on institutionalizing sex education. They jointly created the updated National Sexuality Education Standards in 2020 which standards were fully adopted by the NJ State DOE at their June 3, 2020 meeting. They also jointly created the “model curriculum” including the Amaze.org videos, to go along with the updated National Sexuality Education Standards which everyone is now backing away from. As an aside, Siecus advocates that Sex Ed in the US historically is a function of middle class white supremacy.
