Englewood NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of GIOVANNY FORERO-GOMEZ (DOB: 09/14/1975; married; roofer) of 170 Humphrey Street, Apartment 1, Englewood, NJ on charges of Assault By Auto and Knowingly Leaving The Scene Of A Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Lawrence Suffern.
At approximately 8:31 p.m. on October 31, 2020, the Englewood Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on William Street in which a 2013 Ford Explorer crossed over the double yellow line and struck a 2020 Audi Q3 head-on. The driver of the Ford, GIOVANNY FORERO-GOMEZ, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was located a short distance away by responding officers. FORERO-GOMEZ was uninjured and taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired. Two of the Audi’s six occupants were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries: a 36-year-old female suffered serious bodily injury and a 42-year-old male suffered bodily injury. Both parties were treated and have since been released.
As a result of the investigation, FORERO-GOMEZ was charged with one count of Assault By Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a 3rd degree crime; one count of Leaving The Scene Of A Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a 3rd degree crime; and one count of Assault By Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a 4th degree crime. FORERO-GOMEZ is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Englewood Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
