Pedestrian Fatally Hit by SUV on Main Street in Fort Lee; Police Investigation Underway

FORT LEE, NJ — A tragic morning accident in Bergen County has claimed the life of a pedestrian. Local authorities are actively investigating a fatal collision that occurred at a busy intersection in Fort Lee on Wednesday morning, July 15.

According to the Fort Lee Police Department, the incident took place at approximately 11:06 a.m. at the intersection of Center Avenue and Main Street.

Details of the Fatal Fort Lee Crash

Initial police reports indicate that a silver Mercedes-Benz SUV was stopped at a red light on Center Avenue. When the traffic light turned green, the driver proceeded to make a left turn onto Main Street.

At that exact moment, a pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway and was roughly halfway into the western crosswalk on Main Street. The Mercedes SUV struck the pedestrian, inflicting severe, life-threatening injuries.

Emergency medical personnel rushed the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center, where they were tragically pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian pending family notification.

Main Street Closed for Major Accident Investigation

Following the collision, the Fort Lee Police Department closed Main Street in both directions to allow accident recreation teams to process the scene. Local drivers were advised via Facebook to seek alternate routes throughout Wednesday afternoon while first responders cleared the area.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with law enforcement. Local officials confirmed that as of Thursday afternoon, no criminal charges or traffic citations have been filed against the driver.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under active investigation by Fort Lee traffic detectives.
