Franklin Lakes NJ, the Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department sprang into action to save a dog that had fallen through the ice and swam to an island roughly 75 feet offshore at Shadow Lake.
Quick Response from the Franklin Lakes Team
Assistant Chief Piccoli was first on the scene, confirming the emergency moments after dispatch. Rescue 3 crews arrived promptly, equipped with ice rescue gear, and began strategizing the best approach to reach the stranded pup.
Using a canoe found at the homeowner’s water’s edge, firefighters paddled toward the dog while waiting for the arrival of Utility 344, which brought additional manpower and a Rapid Deployment Craft.
Teamwork Saves the Day
Firefighters Jost and Chazen worked together to calm the dog, using treats to earn its trust. They successfully secured the pup with a leash and transported it safely back to shore.
Community Collaboration
The Franklin Lakes Police Department and Franklin Lakes Volunteer Ambulance Corps provided crucial on-site support and rehab for the rescue team, ensuring the operation’s success.
“This rescue highlights the incredible teamwork and dedication of our volunteers,” said a department spokesperson.
