Hawthorne NJ, at 10:23pm the Hawthorne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Cedar Place. Upon arrival Chief 50 reported a 2.5 story wood frame home heavily involved in the rear first and second floor extending into the attic with heavy fire conditions present.
Due to fire conditions, exposure problems, and the fire being at the end of a narrow dead end street a 2nd alarm was requested bringing assistance to cover the borough and operate on scene from Glen Rock, North Haledon, Wyckoff, Prospect Park and Fair Lawn Fire Department’s.
As companies arrived an aggressive interior attack was made with multiple handlines and 1 exposure protection line in service. Crews were evacuated from the building briefly during the operation after multiple collapses occurred in the rear but were able to re-enter a few minutes later. Members were able to bring the fire under control in just under an hour but remained on scene to overhaul for approximately 4hrs.
Hawthorne Fire Department thanked our mutual aid companies, fire desk communications division, and Ladies Auxiliary and Hawthorne EMS for providing rehab services. No injuries reported.
