Hawthorne NJ, the Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance Corps offered some tips on when to dial 911 or not:
With the increase in COVID cases in our area, please be mindful of how and when to dial 911. Help us help our community by using our emergency system correctly.
If you have come in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or you have symptoms such as fever or cough, please call your healthcare provider – NOT 911.
-Difficulty breathing or choking
-Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
-New extreme confusion or disorientation
-Unexpected sharp or sudden pain
That’s rich, getting advice from a town whose VAC doesn’t even respond to Covid cases. They farm them out through mutual aid. Instead of responding themselves, they get dispatch to contact another town instead. They are too cowardly to handle the cases themselves and foist them upon their neighboring ambulance corps.
