Ridgewood NJ, The Village Council majority (ESPECIALLY MAYOR PAUL VAGIANOS) gear up for another season of outdoor dining corrals. So tax payers, what is the lost parking revenue in connection with street located dining corrals?
Roadway dining, on top of sidewalk dining, came as a result of COVID- to reduce spread of infection by eating outdoors. COVID restrictions are no longer in place. Aside from the Mayor’s push, how did the Village gauge the true success of the outdoor dining program? And
Restaurants continue increasing their floor space and dining capacity in lieu of parking with nominal costs to meter revenue. Businesses enhance their revenue streams by expanding their commercial dining spaces beyond the confines of their establishments. But what’s in it for the taxpayers? Does the Village even know? The findings, analysis and data are yet to be seen.
Note: MAYOR PAUL VAGIANOS-Owner of 4 restaurant properties, within the Cental Business District, directly benefiting from the program, refuses to recuse himself.

Well, if they allowed one (natural or organic dispensary store) in the village, they would make big money, it definitely would balance the pocket authorities budget. Think about how many food establishments and bars are throughout the village, Compared to 30 years ago. I just don’t see how the village is going to make money from shoppers throughout the cbd. these stores need a push, what would dramatically help them is more free parking. Get rid of the parking forces. Move them to traffic details, and rent out a few floors to car dealers so they can park their cars. That’s big business today. Dealerships have parking lots all over the place that they utilizing and pay rent to store brand new cars. it makes sense at this time to do so. Needs to change their way of doing business. We’re living in a new world right now. Take advantage of it while you can. Because remember people 60% of people don’t go shopping anymore, we have Amazon , and yes, it is hurting business, The village is spending every penny they have on improvements throughout the town, which is all well and good, but it’s money they don’t have. Something is going to explode.
sure,
maybe add a strip joint too.
Just a mass of contradictions — no one goes shopping anymore so let’s make sure there’s plenty of free parking. If the stores in the CBD had something that people wanted, they’d find a way to shop there. And there are plenty of alternatives to paying for parking if you’re willing to walk an extra 2 minutes. No, opening a weed shop isn’t going to fix the problem either. In that case, let’s open a laudanum lounge as well. Couldn’t do any worse than the 15th barbershop or injectables suite.
This was the same idiot that claimed we needed more parking and started a campaign for 5 stories, instead of the smaller building we now have. Thank goodness his idea was defeated. We can’t even pay for it fill the garage we have.
I park at the library and walk into town so no parking revenue from me.
“Hey, everybody! I’m proud to be a freeloader!”
As long as it lines Vagianos’ pockets, that’s all that matters
The dining corrals have to go. Accident waiting to happen. Do liquor licenses cover their street dining (they are very specific to property that is covered). If not, and an accident happens at Steel Wheel or the Office’s dining corrals guess who’s paying – us taxpayers. They knew the space they were getting when they signed their leases.
Good point, let’s ban cars from the CBD, no more worries about accidents
Would the council allow one of those “coco hielo” carts like you see in NYC? The vendor could rent a parking space by the day at a reduced rate and sell ices, peeled oranges and diced pineapple. If not, explain the difference from eating a gyro sitting on the street.
Just curious, which entity is liable for an injury caused by a street or sidewalk defect within a dining corral?
Sidewalk =business
as soon as they go over the curb the town is.
Taxpayers shouldn’t be funding downtown events. Why not lease the spaces to the business owners at Commercial Retail rates plus cost to buildout and maintenance? That’s what the real world does.
If we charged Mayor Paul Vagianos for all the commercial space in that picture above, we wouldn’t have needed the historical 2023 tax hike. What he’s doing is the equivalent to robbery.
If the Village of Ridgewood isn’t charging top dollar for this commercial space then something needs to be done.
VOTE PAUL OUT! And call the Attorney General
. Do you have your nose up your ass? The village is talking about bringing outside dining Back. They can’t even keep the roads, clean,
Cars have gone over the curb. On a Mother’s Day a few years ago. TG no injuries.
Cars went over the curb today! It is not safe!!
Given the fact that the Village isn’t bragging about this revenue, and Keith Kazmark posts about every kudos, taxpayers must be paying a lot to make Paul Vagianos (a multi restaurant owner) big money.
Parking spaces = revenue
Corrals = expense, liability and debt
Wake up Ridgewood, this administration is milking us for profit.
Paul Vagianos designed the program so restaurant owners and landlords (like himself) don’t pay for public land grab. So answer is:
Dining gives revenue to him and friends, not the public.
Parking provides revenue to the public and helps to avoid tax increases.
Sweep the damn streets already they are filthy . Look at the car line under the trestle with all the debris, ridiculous. It’s embarrassing. Where is the supervisor inspecting the roads?
Ridgewood staff is ROGUE and they cant seem to find one competent manager to put things in order. The potholes are ridiculous. The park downtown is filled with garbage and cigarette butts. Garbage cans are overflowing. Try walking by outdoor diners and risk your life.
Which restuarants does Paul own? I just know of “It’s Greek to me”
