Ridgewood NJ, big changes are happening at Kingsbridge Lane as the long-awaited removal of the pedestrian bridge is finally underway. According to Village Manager Keith Kazmark, the bridge is being transported to the contractor’s workshop for rehabilitation. Once restored, it will be reinstalled and ready for use, just in time for spring 2025.

A Long-Awaited Project

The Kingsbridge Lane pedestrian bridge has been closed for several years, leaving pedestrians without a safe crossing option and raising safety concerns for residents. Over the summer, Village Mayor Paul Vagianos announced a list of capital construction projects, with the Kingsbridge Lane bridge repair high on the priority list.

Repair vs. Replace Debate

For years, discussions centered around whether to repair the aging bridge or replace it entirely with a new structure. While the debate continued, the bridge remained in limbo, creating an inconvenience and a potential hazard for the community.

Looking Ahead

With rehabilitation now underway, the bridge is set to return better than ever. Residents can look forward to safer crossings and an improved pedestrian experience.

As spring 2025 approaches, the community eagerly anticipates the reopening of this essential pathway, signaling a positive step forward in the village’s infrastructure improvements.

  1. How much money is being spent to remove it and transport it for repair? Is that really a saving compared to the cost of new metal?

    1. I hope so since it is done. Do you think that a cost/benefit analysis was performed? That is Step #1 in any decision like this. Do you have ANY confidence in the elected officials? I know you will say no, but really?

    2. We are the general contractor for this project. The project was originally designed to be repaired in place. This presented the peril of storm damage while under construction and the additional manpower and time delays to work over the river, not to mention EPA restrictions It was my alternate to remove and repair the bridge off-site, offering a savings of over $200,000. to the Village…..so….yes….it is a real savings to the Village!

      1. Of course. The Village is all about saving money.

Historically, the village always had a single idiot. This Village obviously can afford more than one.

  2. Long overdue.

  3. The bridge Chris R said couldn’t be repaired.

    In 2021.

    Amazing.
