Oakland NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of RANDY S. McMASTER (DOB: 6/17/1981; single; unemployed) of 21 Waterfall Court, Bloomingdale, NJ.  The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Oakland Police Department under the direction of Chief Keith Sanzari.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Oakland Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fire at the Optimum store located at 40 Potash Road, Oakland, NJ.  Responding officers observed two Optimum service vans with smoke and fire damage.  Both vehicles were in the rear of the parking lot, and the fire had been suppressed prior to the arrival of the Oakland Police and Fire Departments.  An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Oakland Police Department revealed that RANDY S. McMASTER had intentionally set fire to both vehicles.

As a result of the investigation, on November 16, 2023, RANDY S. McMASTER was arrested in Paramus, NJ, and charged with second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(2); third-degree arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1b(2); and third-degree criminal mischief, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3a(1).  McMASTER was remanded to Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.  Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Oakland Police Department, the Oakland Fire Department, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation for their assistance in this investigation.
