Ridgewood NJ, NJ Administrative Code Section 16:47 – 3.8 establishes a minimum width of 24 feet for residential streets.
Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser has stated that selected sections of Clinton Ave. are 22 feet wide. He has proposed widening the entire street to 28 feet. Mayor Paul Vagianos is not happy about that and suggested Mr. Rutishauser plan on “de minimis if any” widening of the street.
What happens now? Does the Village risk being in violation of the Administrative Code in order for our mayor get his way, or will someone do the right thing and tell the mayor “no can do boss.”

Paulie is beholden to someone who lives on the street. And that person is not supportive of the changes proposed by our Village Engineer. Guess who will win out.

Knowingly violating an Administrative Code may result in a future loss of state aid, or disqualification from future grant eligibility. Don’t do it Mr. Mayor.
Illegal dumping on the East Side and now thumbing our noses at an Administrative Code on the West Side. The State must just love us. Good luck getting that application through SHPO.

Just ask the Village Engineer to measure it again. And, again, if necessary, in order to come up with the correct measurement.
They could put curbs sidewalks on one street side of the street if necessary. And curbs on the other.

The idiotic street narrowing on Heights Road and S Hill by W Glen Ave is also a disaster.
People have already run over the ridiculous “bump out” encroachment into Heights Road (there are still deep tire tracks where cars overran the bump out). Very dangerous.
Also, S-Hill has been narrowed so much at W Glen that I doubt it is 24 ft wide. It was already narrow before any work was done. This narrowing and the fact that it bisects W Glen at a 45-degree angle makes it very, very dangerous. There will definitely be accidents at this intersection.
These are probably in violation of NJ law and will result in accidents, if not death.

That’s the village engineer, it looks like a circus clam with that shirt on. He’s approaching the village mayor council, and residence like that. And also his title is Director of Dpw. He should put a nice suit on ridiculous and regarding Clinton Avenue. This has been an issue for over 20 years now every mayor council Addresses this issue. this is nothing new. As a few pain in the asses to live on that block that don’t want curbs and sidewalks, they are afraid that they will lose their Fieldstone curbing right. This is old bullshit.
