Newark NJ, on Friday, 6/16, New Jersey Transit Police Officer Jonathan White was on patrol at Newark Penn Station. He observed a young man in need of assistance. The man was not able to care for himself and possessed limited ability to communicate. In addition to limited speech, there was also a language barrier. Subsequently, Officer Hector Martinez and Officer Fernando Candia assisted with translation. The man was believed to be missing. Food was provided for the man and the officers delved into an extensive search to locate his family.
During the hours long search, multiple agencies were contacted without success. Ultimately, the officers were able to use social media to locate the man’s mother. She responded to Penn Station and the family was reunited. The mother advised that her son had walked out of their residence without alerting anyone.
Great job and care by the observant, committed officers at District 2!
