Ridgewood NJ, according to Village Manager Keith Kazmark ,”fuel tank replacement project at our Public Works facility on Chestnut Street is progressing well. The former tanks lived their useful life of approximately 30 years and the new tanks should be installed in the next few weeks”.
Kazmark also said, “This will be followed by a similar removal project in the parking lot at the corner of N. Walnut Street and Franklin Avenue (next to Town Garage, which is also being remediated by the prior property owner). These long lingering environmental projects are finally being addressed in the Village.”
Underground fuel tanks, particularly those used for storing petroleum products like gasoline or diesel, have varying lifespans depending on factors such as materials, maintenance, and environmental conditions. On average, underground fuel tanks can last:
- Steel tanks: 10 to 30 years. Older tanks made from bare steel are prone to corrosion, reducing their lifespan.
- Fiberglass tanks: 30 to 50 years. Fiberglass tanks are more resistant to corrosion and tend to have longer lifespans.
- Composite or double-walled tanks: 30 to 50 years. These tanks are designed to prevent leaks and resist corrosion, significantly extending their lifespan.
Regular inspections, maintenance, and corrosion protection (like cathodic protection for steel tanks) are crucial for extending the lifespan of underground fuel tanks and preventing environmental damage from leaks or spills.

Those tanks at the Ridgewood site should’ve been replaced 10 years ago, as of the d e p .
Whistleblower Guy is always ready with his camera.
Yea we know.
He ain’t exactly right in the head.
And what’s up with that building next to where they’re installing the new fuel tanks, looks like the buildings ready to fall down, it’s filthy can the Village clean it up? Who’s responsible for that location? Doesn’t anyone have any pride? Where is the foreman pick up the litter remove the weeds clean up, I can imagine what it looks like inside. Where is the manager on this or he don’t know about this too, is the Director keeping him in the dark? What a shit show
Thumbs down excuse me, obviously you weren’t in the form 10 years ago like I was. I sat on the advisory board, just like those new steps going up to the back of the street department. They were informed 25 years ago to install an emergency access, all the sudden they installed six months ago. So the person is putting thumbs down don’t mess with me. I know things you’ll never know.
