On Saturday July 15th New Jerseyans up and down the coast protested the heavily subsidized wind projects being built up and down the Jersey shore. Protestors joined hands on beaches from Lavallette, Asbury Park, Long Beach Island, Ocean City all the way down to Cape May in a demonstration against off shore wind projects.
One protester called the wind farms, “ugly, animal killing, radar interfering, inefficient, massive tax subsidy supported, wind turbine monstrosities being forced upon reluctant shore communities”.
The protest called New Jersey Hands Across the Beaches . Event coordinator Kathleen Harper, who also refers to herself as a “whale warrior” said she became concerned about the whales when news of them dying and washing ashore along the New Jersey and New York coastlines began in December. She grew up in Cape May County and spent many summers on the 34th Street beach in Ocean City. Now, she lives in Dennis Township and the beaches and marine environment remain a top concern for her.
