Ridgewood NJ, according to the “coalition brewing” beer was considered safer to drink than water due to a combination of factors, although it is important to note that this perception may not apply universally across all time periods and cultures. Here are a few reasons why beer was sometimes considered safer:

  1. Waterborne diseases: In the past, water sources were often contaminated with various pathogens and bacteria, which could cause waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, or typhoid. The brewing process for beer involved boiling the water, which killed off many of these harmful microorganisms, making the final product safer to consume.
  2. Alcohol content: Beer contains alcohol, which has antimicrobial properties. The fermentation process used to produce beer converts sugars into alcohol, creating an inhospitable environment for many types of bacteria and pathogens. This alcohol content made beer less likely to harbor harmful microorganisms, providing a certain level of protection.
  3. Storage and preservation: Beer has a relatively low pH and alcohol content, which can act as natural preservatives. This helped prevent spoilage and the growth of bacteria or other contaminants in beer, allowing it to remain drinkable for longer periods compared to water.
  4. Cultural practices: In some societies, beer consumption was more prevalent than water consumption due to cultural norms and traditions. Beer was often brewed and consumed as a staple beverage, particularly in regions where water quality was known to be poor. This cultural preference for beer over water further reinforced the perception of beer as a safer alternative.

Perhaps with all the PFOS and PFOA Contamination in our water supply  and the constant water restrictions its time to adapt a readily and historical proven alternative  , save water drink beer!
