New Jersey Municipal Courts Reveal Traffic Ticket Statistics for 2023-2024: Which Bergen County Towns Issued the Most?

Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey municipal courts have officially released data on traffic tickets distributed across towns from July 2023 to June 2024. The statistics highlight the total number of traffic violations, including DWI, moving violations, and parking tickets, issued in each borough, township, and city. They also provide insight into how many tickets have been resolved in court versus those still pending or part of a backlog.

Here’s a look at Bergen County’s top towns for traffic ticket issuance.

Top Bergen County Towns Issuing the Most Traffic Tickets:

  1. Fort Lee: 52,116
  2. Garfield: 40,774
  3. Hackensack: 39,872
  4. Palisades Park: 26,664
  5. Cliffside Park: 26,475
  6. Ridgefield: 19,800
  7. Lodi: 15,763
  8. Ridgewood: 15,494
  9. Englewood: 14,953
  10. North Arlington: 14,560

Interestingly, in five of the top six towns—excluding Hackensack—the number of tickets issued exceeds the population. Notably, Fort Lee issued over 6,000 fewer traffic tickets compared to the previous year. Similarly, Garfield and Hackensack also saw decreases in ticket distribution. However, Palisades Park experienced a significant increase, issuing 4,000 more tickets than last year.

The top three towns—Fort Lee, Garfield, and Hackensack—are also among the five most populated cities in Bergen County, according to World Population Review, which uses data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Parking vs. Moving Violations

Most towns in the Top 10, except for Ridgefield, issued the majority of their tickets for parking violations. Ridgefield had a more balanced split, with 7,438 moving violations and 6,701 parking tickets.

  3. How is this as a percentage of average monthly traffic on each town’s streets.

    Without this information, you won’t know if Rockleigh tickets at a higher rate than Midland Park
