Reader says ,’An independent investigation should be conducted to determine if criminal charges should be filed in connection with soil contamination at the Orchard Elementary School”

Orchard School

“An independent investigation should be conducted to determine if criminal charges should be filed in connection with this matter. I’m beginning to wonder if Frances Edwards’ illness and subsequent death was due to the Board of Education’s failure to address soil contamination issues at the Orchard Elementary School. Ms. Edwards and her family lived directly across from the school for several years, and lived there at the time of her untimely death. Frances and her husband Joseph Alvaro had many disputes with the Ridgewood Public School System. Could they have been targeted? That is, did someone know toxic runoff from chemicals at Orchard were flowing into the Alvaro’s residential property and would eventually result in illness and/or death?”

Orchard School

“Someone should look way far in to this.
It’s been contaminated since the school was built.
Don’t tell me there hasn’t been an impact on the people who say in that building four hours a day from kindergarten to 5th grade.
All you have to do is look. The stuff in that soul causes let’s omg delays and other health concerns.
Look back. Look way back at the now adults who attended that school.”

Reader says BOE priorities are not in the best interest of our children

Orchard School

“not surprising that the BOE swept this issue (Orchard Field) under the carpet in 2007. It’s sad that instead of making sure today that every school and school property are safe, they would rather spend the money on an auditorium, parking garage and many other capital projects. Seems like their priorities are not in the best interest of our children…”

“”CONSENT AGENDA” in a meeting exists to make the meetings faster / save time when there are many items to cover and “standard / repetitive / procedural items can be bundled in one agenda item”, or when items that were already discussed at a previous work session and agreed to in public can be added to a consent agenda for approval.

Mandatory School Psychological Surveys of your children, Reader says , “Before you know it, your boy or girl is on 3 meds before even stepping a foot in college!”

RHS_theridgewoodblog

Nice, now every pissed off teen (is there any other kind?) will be able to disclose their frustrations to a computer system. To be carefully cataloged and stored, forever.

Next, school councilors who don’t want to be accused of missing warning signs would recommend visiting a shrink or a candy man to discuss treatment.

Before you know it, your boy or girl is on 3 meds before even stepping a foot in college! Everyone making $. The schools get more Budget, the shrinks and Pharma sell candy, the politicians get more support from school unions and drug manufacturers.

Everyone except your child that is. The teen is a nervous wreck for life.

Reader says ,”I want to vote on the budget”

Vote Ridgewood NJ

“I want to vote on the budget. It has a huge impact on my life. The grand plans for the library and high school are proof that we need fiscal oversight. It is my money.

I lived in Ridgewood before and after having children in the schools. I have downsized but I regret staying. The village has become nothing but a wish list for developers and short term residents.

Young buyers cannot afford and do not want big houses. Homes over $1 million are not moving. After renovations by homeowners many of these homes are still selling for less that what they were bought for 15-20 years ago. Realtors (who make a good living off us) should be honest about this. They will list a home and then push for never ending price cuts. They get paid either way.

Many high end homeowners have had reevaluations to lower their taxes. When the village has it’s next town-wide tax reevaluation we will all pay for the decline in high-end home values. The village expense pie will be divided and the under $1 million taxes will go up. It’s not “just the cost of a Starbucks every day”.”

Reader Blasts Turf Choice

RHSBridgeflood_theridgewoodblog

“There are better choices for our fields than artificial turf made of plastic and crumb rubber. 90 percent of pro players in all sports prefer grass to turf for a variety of reasons. Our fields are in active flood plains. We can’t get warranties on the stuff because of that fact. There are new grass blends that are pest and drought resistant and when the fields flood on an artificial turf field like the ones the BOE has installed and now again at Stevens, the toxins go into our water ways, the fields harden , often need extensive repairs and the cost of disposing of it is around 100,000 dollars per field and it sits in the land fills for ever as it is not biodegradable.”
