Replacing Cubbies, $250 250$per linear feet plus 13.5% fee

Ridgewood NJ, LAN associates estimate for replacing cubbies like the one in this image in elementary school classrooms is 250$per linear feet plus 13.5% in their fee to design and oversee the work.

Question: Can the schools be creative in this and allocate this 250$ per linear feet as budget and allow the class teacher and HSA to pick the furniture for their classrooms instead of letting the architect do it?

EDIT: not just for cost savings, but also for creativity.

What’s the downside?

Reader says, “Many of those who graduate can’t pass the entrance to a community college”

RHS Grad

” Do you think anyone might put a premium on learning the basics? Many of those who graduate can’t pass the entrance to a community college (go on and ask the administrators at BCC, go ahead) so then the have to take the remedial coursework which they or their parents have to pay AFTER all the property taxes they paid for the town’s education which the student didn’t get. And those credits don’t apply to the degree. But no worries they’ll tell you they need and you must give them MORE money thrown at this problem which won’t do anything. Then, of course, there are all those teachers ‘aide’ individuals who add MORE cost to the bottom line..”

Ridgewood NJ, Results from the semi-annual National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) were released this morning.  The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), first administered in 1969, is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what our nation’s students know and can do in subjects such as mathematics, reading, science, and writing.  The results of NAEP are released as The Nation’s Report Card, and are available for the nation, states, and in some cases, urban districts.  Teachers, principals, parents, policymakers, and researchers all use NAEP results to assess progress and develop ways to improve education in the United States.

Parent Referendum Presentations Go Forward but Ridgewood BOE Says, “it’s Not Finalized”

BOE

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Facebook page  Unofficial: Ridgewood NJ Updates’s, ” Our board of education CLAIMS that they have not yet “finalized” the list of projects for referendum and that will be done in March 2020.

If the list is not finalized, then why are they spending THOUSANDS of dollars this month for presentations to parents in schools, and if LAN associate’s stated timeline of 10 months was true, then in payments to LAN associates for final sketches?

Reader claims the Ridgewood BOE members enjoy the “power trip”

BOE

” The psyche of most volunteer school boards is often very flawed, it’s the exception not the rule that you have a board that is not more concerned with their own power and influence than the mission of the board. The Ridgewood BOE is no different, the majority is driven by ego, and to vote on a new interim member [Dani] who is void of ‘ego’, and is focused on the ‘mission’, would directly affect their ability to wield power and influence, so it’s logical that they would not want Dani on “their” board. It’s unfortunate, but common, that board members come to enjoy the “power trip”. They generally start-off well meaning, and then veer of into this unfortunate course, where what is important is no longer the mission and the children, but what they mistakenly perceive as ‘power’. This makes it of crucial importance that come April, the majority makes their voice heard, and loudly, in a decisive fashion. The consequences of letting the Ridgewood BOE continue to run in this unchecked fashion can negatively affect the Ridgewood community for many years. “

Reader claims Ridgewood BOE direction will change in April as the Majority rules

VOTE_theridgewoodblog

“Someone wrote: “I’m sure Mr. Dani woke up this morning to the realization that his embarrassing failure was directly attributable to the very people that thought bullying people on social media into silence was his path to success. All reasonable people looked at the unhinged behavior of the people he aligned himself with and said we have serious work to do here. No wonder they went in a different direction.”

This is such flawed reasoning that it is laughable. Only four people voted for the candidate last night. Hundreds of people spoke and wrote in support of Mr. Dani. His path to success, as you anonymously mis-state, is that he is greatly admired by so many people. The four pitiful idiots on the board, who are not clear thinkers, are threatened by a smart and sensible person like Mr. Dani, which is why they did not vote for him. They went in the same tired direction they always go.

That direction will change in April. Majority rules. Those four are nothing.”

Reader warns,” WAKE UP RIDGEWOOD! THE MULTI MILLION DOLLAR REFERENDUM IS COMING! “

for sale Ridgewood_Real_Estate_theRodgewopodblog

“In the next six months the Board majority needs to deliver on their promise (to special interest groups); commit to multi million dollar projects and move the election back to November so residents won’t be allowed to vote or change the school budget.

None of what they are planing will directly impact the children’s programs, education or stop the decline in school ranking. Residents pockets will be tuned inside out and we will all be financially crippled by debt.

The Board President and Vice President have lowered their taxes bracing for the hike. WAKE UP RIDGEWOOD! THE MULTI MILLION DOLLAR REFERENDUM IS COMING!

They appointed Muhammad banking on the fact that he’s only lived here a few seconds, is not registered to vote and doesn’t know enough to stop or expose their plan. “

Ridgewood Appoints New Absentee Board Member

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Board of Education made its decision on Monday night to fill out the term of the board seat vacated on July 30th 2019 with the term expiring on April 21,2020 .

While over 400 people showed support Saurabh Dani the administrator of the “It takes a Ridgewood Village ” Facebook page , the board opted for a lesser know quantity Muhammad Mahmoud .

Even long time BOE watchers we caught off guard .

With so many well qualified candidates, Sheila Brogan called the group “stellar”, the board appears to have focused on broadening representation ,finding someone who will not make waves and tow the party line .

Brogan said Mahmoud offered a new perspective and had children in the district.

In a twist of irony Mr. Mohmoud did not attend the meeting last night and does not vote in the district.

Reader Suggests Stop Complaining and Do What You are Told

DSCF4857

” I live by the motto “if you have to ask how much, you can’t afford it.” That’s why a lot of people move to Ridgewood so the high costs keeps the less desirable people out. Stop complaining about everything and find somewhere else to complain if your taxes are going up. I have houses in Paterson and Clifton for rent if you want to live there. Plenty of people love Ridgewood.

It’s a group of people that probably haven’t lived here for many years who want to change things. I read in another post that the biggest complainer, Steve Kim, doesn’t even send his children to the Ridgewood schools. I would love to know why he chooses not to send them to Ridgewood. He wants to expose everything but yet doesn’t think the Ridgewood schools are good enough for his children. It’s bad enough that people drove Valley Hospital out. God forbid Ridgewood has 21st century technology. “
