NJ “Affordable Housing” Crackdown: 16 Towns, Including Ridgewood, Park Ridge & Franklin Lakes, Face Dec. 31 Deadline

NEW JERSEY — The Fair Share Housing Center has issued “affordable housing” compliance assessments to all 564 municipalities statewide, with a stern warning to 16 towns that face losing control over their housing plans if they fail to act by December 31, 2025.

Palisades Park Faces 90-Day Deadline to Address Affordable Housing Needs

Palisades Park NJ, in a recent decision, a judge ordered the Borough of Palisades Park to create a “comprehensive fair-share housing plan” and a revised land-use ordinance within 90 days. This decision comes after six “builder’s remedy” lawsuits filed by developers who sought to increase affordable housing options in the area. Judge Christine Farrington ruled that the borough’s current zoning ordinance does not adequately support the development of affordable housing, mandating that the borough take swift action.

Court Ruling Forces Over Development on Wayne

Wayne NJ,  Judge forces over development on Wayne . Judge Thomas Brogan, sitting in state Superior Court in Paterson, ruled that Wayne officials have avoided their responsibility through five-plus years of “bad faith” and “concerted procrastination.”  The court decision  means Wayne  has lost protection from builder’s remedy lawsuits this week after a judge ruled that officials have dragged their feet for too long in their obligation to plan for low-income housing.
