Trenton NJ,  the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) voted on Thursday afternoon to adopt the first set of rules that will guide the cultivation, manufacture, and sale of recreational cannabis in the state. The rule adoption paves the way for the opening of applications for cannabis business licenses – the next step in the process to make personal-use cannabis available for sale.

New Jersey Imposes New Fee With Legalization Of Marijuana

As marijuana bills shape the nation, New Jersey joined the party. The recent push to legalize recreational marijuana in New Jersey will include a “social equity” tax according to recent reports. That means that the tax will benefit communities of color disproportionately affected by drug laws. The report states that bills by the Senate and Assembly will allow the Cannabis Regulatory Commission to levy “an optional social equity excise fee” for programs geared towards alleviating racial disparities.

Roseland NJ, On Feb. 22, Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation that legalized marijuana for adult recreational use, making New Jersey the first in the region and the 13th state in the nation to do so. That was step two in allowing cannabis sales to proceed in New Jersey. The final step will be adoption of the regulatory framework that will be drafted by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission.

Governor Murphy Announces Appointments to Cannabis Regulatory Commission

Trenton NJ,  No Governor Murphy did not select Cheech and Chong , he announced his appointments of Dianna Houenou as Chair of the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, and Jeff Brown will serve as Executive Director of the Commission. The Governor will also appoint Krista Nash as a member of the Commission, upon the recommendation of Senate President Steve Sweeney.

ROSELAND NJ, On Tuesday, New Jersey voters approved a constitutional amendment to legalize cannabis. That was just step one in allowing cannabis sales to proceed in New Jersey. Steps two and three will be the passage of enabling legislation and then the regulatory framework that will be drafted by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission.
