Ridgewood NJ, according to Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security ,on February 12, the US CDC published updated guidance to support schools’ efforts to mitigate COVID-19 risk for in-person classes. The biggest update is a new “phased mitigation” strategy, which couples risk mitigation measures with the level of community transmission. The guidance emphasizes 5 key mitigation mechanisms—mask use, physical distancing, hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, cleaning and sanitization, and surveillance and contact tracing—that are applicable across all levels of COVID-19 risk, but it also provides actionable information regarding how to implement those and other strategies at various levels of COVID-19 risk. The guidance also breaks down specific recommendations for elementary, middle, and high schools, and it includes guidance for extracurricular activities, including sports.

Ridgewood NJ, according to Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security ,the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants with the potential for increased transmissibility has provided the motivation necessary to rapidly scale up genomic sequencing capacity, in the US and elsewhere. Some members of the scientific community argue that existing capacity is available, at least in terms of having adequate hardware, technicians, and infrastructure; however, there is a lack of funding available to conduct this type of research, particularly on a scale needed to monitor the evolution of a national epidemic. In the global context, the US ranks #36 in terms of the proportion of specimens sequenced (0.36% of confirmed cases), compared to #1 Denmark, which has sequenced more than half.

Ridgewood NJ, some good news for nursing homes for a change. Despite the defective policies from Governor Cuomo ,Murphy and Wolf , vaccines seem to be the answer. A new study from AHCA/NCAL, the nursing home trade association, found that vaccinated nursing homes experienced a 48% decline in new resident cases three weeks after their first clinic, compared to a 21% decline among non-vaccinated nursing homes located in the same county. This suggests that deaths are going to start falling fast.

Ridgewood NJ, The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) recognizes that the disruption to education due to the COVID19 pandemic persists as schools and districts prepare for the spring 2021 assessment administration. While the United States Department of Education (USED) has not indicated that it will allow states to waive their statewide assessment obligations for the 2020-2021 school year, the NJDOE has heard requests from many stakeholders to explore all options regarding flexibilities prior to administering the statewide assessment systems. To further explore options, including flexibilities regarding the use of statewide assessment data in federal accountability systems – and to ease the burden of preparing for and administering assessments while these options evolve – the NJDOE is postponing the planned start date of all assessments and plans to begin statewide assessment
administration no earlier than April 5, 2021.

CDC Inadvertently Admits the Masks Everyone has Been Wearing are Largely Ineffective

Ridgewood NJ, the CDC finally recognized that the masks they’ve had everyone wearing for the better part of a year are largely ineffective because aerosols easily go around the top and sides. Time to nail this down, so to speak. Their latest recommendation is “placing a sleeve made of sheer nylon hosiery material around the neck and pulling it up over either a cloth or medical procedure mask” or using knots and tucking to fit a mask closely to the face.
