Benjamin Franklin Middle School students win Middle School Best Film at the Count Basie Teen and College Film Fest 2020

Ridgewood NJ,  Ridgewood students Maiah Riedel and Emily Scharfenberg won Middle School Best Film at the Count Basie Teen and College Film Fest 2020 for their documentary, Unbridled.
The film was showcased at this year’s virtual film fest, which ran from March 30 through April 6. The two student filmmakers attend Benjamin Franklin Middle School (BF), where they have been active members of the Film Club for the past two years. Unbridled is the story of a Mustang training and rescue facility located in Allendale that also serves as a wellness center for veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Ridgewood NJ, , the New Jersey teacher pension system is paying out about $4.5 billion a year in retirement benefits and other kinds of payments to 104,000 beneficiaries. Yet contributions by active teachers and state government amount about $2.8 billion annually, leaving a $1.7 billion deficit. When the market is good, investment returns help make up the difference. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018, for instance, a nearly 10 percent market gain generated $2 billion, which the fund largely used to pay retirees. This year, however, market gains have largely evaporated for everyone.

FDA Authorizes First COVID 19 Test for Patient At-Home Sample Collection

Washington DC, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the first diagnostic test with a home collection option for COVID-19. Specifically, the FDA re-issued the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) COVID-19 RT-PCR Test to permit testing of samples self-collected by patients at home using LabCorp’s Pixel by LabCorp COVID-19 Test home collection kit.
