Ridgewood NJ, Village of Ridgewood Parks Division continues to get it done by clearing downed trees from local water ways. Keeping debris out of local waterways helps with flood mitigation. The aim to reduce the impact of flooding on people and property.
Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock was hit hard by an early evening thunderstorm on Tuesday, 07/06. Of the dozens of reported storm related incidents, these stood out: A single family home on Amherst Court took a heavy hit from a huge shade tree, and service on NJ Transit’s Bergen County Line was temporarily halted due to a downed tree just south of Harristown Road. Fortunately, despite the seemingly Borough wide existence of damages caused by strong winds and heavy rain, no storm related injuries were reported. Of course, Glen Rock Police and Glen Rock Fire Department personnel were on hand the ensure their residents’ safety, and were kept extremely busy throughout the entire storm event.
Harristown between Gramercy & Stonefield in both directions will be closed. Detours in place.
Ridgewood NJ, The Village has notified PSE&G about the many roads that are still blocked by fallen trees, which are caught in wires. These downed trees will be attended to by the Village’s Shade Tree Division after PSE&G has confirmed that the wires are no longer live.
Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Parks and Shade Tree Divisions, along with the Streets Division, are working diligently to remove the downed trees from the streets. They will continue to work during the day and into the evening, until all streets have been cleared. CAUTION: ALWAYS ASSUME ANY WIRE ON THE GROUND IS LIVE AND STAY AWAY! CALL PSE&G AND IDENTIFY ITS LOCATION SO THAT THEY CAN SEND SOMEONE TO CHECK IT. Downed trees which are caught in wires will be attended to after PSE&G has determined whether or not the wires are live.

The state is promising to get tougher with New Jersey’s four electric utilities over their tree-trimming practices, hoping to curtail the number of outages that occur in extreme storms when blown-down trees take out power lines.
After more than 100,000 trees fell on power lines during Hurricane Sandy, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is looking to adopt stricter standards on how utilities run what the agency calls vegetation management programs in their franchise territories. (Johnson/NJSpotlight)
