Elmwood Park NJ, Elmwood Park firefighters extricated an adult female driver from an SUV that rolled over on its side after striking two (2) parked vehicles on Mola Boulevard near Broadway early Saturday morning, 08/06. The rolled over SUV and one (1) parked vehicle were towed from the scene. An ambulance transported the injured driver to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

Elmwood Park NJ, an Infiniti SUV crashed through the storefront of an Elmwood Park furniture store shortly after 8:30 PM on Saturday, 03/19, and finally came to a stop once all 4 wheels of the vehicle were firmly on the store’s showroom floor. The vehicle’s adult female driver was uninjured, as were several store employees and customers who were inside at the time. Elmwood Park Police and Elmwood Park Fire Department personnel & vehicles responded to the incident, which occurred in the 100 block of Broadway, Elmwood Park. Damage was limited to the store’s glass & aluminum façade. A tow truck driver backed the vehicle out of the store to facilitate its removal from the scene by his flatbed. No word at the scene as to what may have triggered the mishap.
Paramus NJ, Paramus Police apprehended an individual who allegedly fled from a crashed stolen vehicle on the roof of an adult day care center two (2) blocks from the southbound Route 17 crash site. The apprehension, which took place late Thursday afternoon, 01/27, followed an intensive search for the vehicle, which was reportedly stolen in Elmwood Park earlier in the day. A Paramus Fire Department tower ladder facilitated the removal of police officers and the detainee from the roof. Three (3) other occupants of the vehicle also fled the crash site, and two (2) remained at large late in the day after one (1) was nabbed by Paramus Police in the parking lot of a nearby supermarket. An unoccupied passenger car left running in a parking lot of a school near the crash site was stolen shortly after the individuals were seen fleeing. Additionally, an attempted car jacking was reported in neighboring Oradell within an hour after the incident on Route 17 unfolded. The crash on Route 17 involved six (6) vehicles; one (1) minor crash related injury was reported.

Elmwood Park NJ, Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded on Tuesday morning, 10/19 to assist Elmwood Park Police at a homicide scene on Beechwood Avenue. One (1) person was taken into custody by the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and turned over to detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit. The suspect had barricaded himself in a bathroom after allegedly killing a family member with an ax. He was convinced to surrender voluntarily by crisis negotiators at the scene. No injuries to law enforcement officers were reported in connection with the incident.
Elmwood Park NJ, the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team was assembled to assist Elmwood Park Police subdue an adult male who had threatened two (2) Elmwood Park police officers with a knife after they attempted to enter his home for purposes of performing a requested welfare check on Saturday afternoon, 05/08. Following a hours long stand off, SWAT Team personnel stormed the man’s residence after deploying several tear gas canisters, and seized him without further incident. Elmwood Park Fire Department units were also at the scene, along with multiple BLS and ALS emergency medical service units. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office assisted Elmwood Park Police with traffic and crowd control.

Elmwood Park NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the investigation into the discovery of a body floating in the Passaic River in Elmwood Park on Sunday, May 24, 2020. At approximately 11:20 a.m., the Elmwood Park Police Department received a 911 call reporting a body in the Passaic River. The body was located underneath Broadway on the Elmwood Park/Paterson border. The body was an unidentified male found face down, tangled in debris. The Elmwood Park Fire Department rescue boat retrieved the unidentified male and brought him to the Elmwood Park Marina for an examination by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office. The initial assessment did not reveal any trauma to the body.
Elmwood Park NJ, Under the direction of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification, Elmwood Park Fire boat teams recovered the body of a deceased individual found floating in the Passaic River underneath the Broadway Bridge early Sunday afternoon, 05/24. The victim was moved from the water onto a boat, and then transported to the Elmwood Park boat launch on River Drive for transfer to land. No further information about the victim or the cause of death was available from officials at the scene.
