Glen Rock Looks at Early Morning Garbage Pick Up Ban

Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer

the staff of the Ridgewod blog

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer commented on Facebook on Glen Rock wanting to ban “noisy” early morning garbage pick up .

“After receiving a number of complaints in recent months, I have asked the council to consider an ordinance that would ban commercial trash pickup during overnight hours.
The ordinance passed its first reading at our last public meeting and will have its second reading and public hearing at our September 12th meeting which begins at 8pm. Feel free to join us if you would like to be heard on this issue. Note that an initial version of this ordinance had pickup beginning at 8am but we moved it to 6am to minimize potential traffic and parking issues.
I do thank the council for their consideration on this.”

Glen Rock NJ, The Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department  announced on Facebook Friday that the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department has been upgraded to an ISO Class 3. ISO ratings are on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 not meeting the minimum standards. ISO ratings affect the communities’ insurance rates, the better the ISO class the better the insurance rates are for the community.

– Emergency communications, how well the fire department receives and dispatches fire alarms.
– The fire department, including the amount of equipment available, maintenance and testing of equipment, type and extent of training, number of people who participated in training, and firefighter response to emergencies.
– Water supply, capacity for fire suppression beyond daily consumption, hydrant inspections and flow testing, and number of fire hydrants no more than 1,000 feet from the representative locations.

July 18,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Police Department is reporting that a few residents have reported a new scam to us that people should be aware of. This is a new twist on the “sextorsion” scam where suspects try and blackmail victims with the threat of releasing some type of sexual or embarrassing video/behavior to everyone on their contact list if they do not pay. The twist in this case is that the scammer actually has your correct password and makes you believe they might actually have some embarrassing content. These passwords were obtained via a large data hack in the past, however, it has been enough to scare quite a few people into paying. Read the attached article for full details. The GRPD Detective Bureau is also available to answer questions and assist residents as well. We can be reached at 201-670-3948 or 201-670-3947.

Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer reminds residents there is a cost to all of us, as residents for Rallies and Protests

Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer

July 2,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Glen Rock NJ, on Facebook ,Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer reminds residents that no one is looking to stop you from exercising your free speech rights but these events cost taxpayers in police overtime and municipal services.

Packer said, “At the council work session this past Wednesday, some time was spent talking about rallies at Borough Hall, particularly the ‘Rally for Humanity’ that is occurring this evening at 7:30PM on the front steps of Borough Hall.
The entire council was in agreement that no local governing body should attempt to prevent residents from exercising their First Amendment rights by following the example of those who built this country by speaking out and rallying.
The point was made, though, that residents should know that there is a cost to all of us, as residents, when there are rallies such as this.
When a group of several hundred people gathers in one place, it is necessary to have a police presence and the police personnel that are present, do represent a cost to all of us. It is important to point out that ANY Borough event held in town, that requires police presence has that same cost.
We budget for police overtime each year with the expectation that there will be times when extra coverage is needed. Each year, the amount that is budgeted is determined based on an assessment of how many events are anticipated in the coming year where police overtime will be necessary as well as OTHER possible times when such a cost may be incurred.
As there was at least one grassroots rally at Borough Hall in 2017, this year’s budget was done with the knowledge that there is an increasing likelihood of gatherings that might necessitate a police presence.
While budgeting for overtime is never an exact science, we feel that we did a good job of covering our bases in this year’s budget and, as always, will continue to reassess as we move forward.”
