Newark NJ, three residents of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, were extradited to the United States last week and made their initial appearance in Newark federal court yesterday on charges relating to their participation in a sprawling “grandparent scam” that defrauded elderly Americans out of millions of dollars.

Glen Rock Resident Gets Hit With “Hostage Scam”

Glen Rock NJ, on Thursday July 20th at 8:26 PM a Glen Rock resident reported to the Glen Rock Police that she was contacted by an unknown person who told her that he was holding her daughter hostage and demanded $5,000 to let her go, which is a common phone scam. The victim was able to contact her son to verify that her daughter was OK and did not lose any money as a result of the attempted scam.

Glen Rock Senior Falls Prey to “Grandparent” Scam

Glen Rock NJ, according to the Glen Rock Police at 4:33 PM ,the adult son of a Glen Rock woman contacted police reporting that his mother had been the victim of a “grandparent” scam. Upon interviewing the woman, she recounted receiving a phone call from an individual stating that her grandchild was in jail and needed money for bail. The victim subsequently withdrew $ 9,800 from the bank and a man showed up at her home to collect the money.

Twp of Washington NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced today the arrests of COREY EASTMAN (DOB: 10/08/1992; single; unemployed) of 5169 Elvena Avenue, Pennsauken, NJ; DEVON ORTIZ (DOB: 11/18/1991; single; unemployed) of 4333 Howland Street, Philadelphia, PA; and JULIA MONTGOMERY (DOB: 02/14/1993; single; unemployed) of 7767 Marion Avenue, Pennsauken, NJ on charges of Conspiracy To Commit Impersonation/Identity Theft, Conspiracy To Commit Theft By Deception, and Conspiracy To Commit Financial Facilitation Of Criminal Activity.  ORTIZ was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest.  The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Tenafly Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert Chamberlain.

Twp. of Washington  NJ, Twp of Washington Police report that a resident was the victim of the “Grandparet scam” . According to sources a 29-year-old Bornx man is faceing charges after police say he stole $9,000 from a senior citizen using a scam involving a phony car accident.

The 82-year-old victim contacted police earlier that day to report he’d received “several phone calls from an unknown person who stated his grandson was in a car accident with a pregnant woman and needed cash for medical treatment,”
