With a record number of New Jersey residents holding jobs, Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday announced the state will be able to offer $200 million in tax relief to businesses by cutting their contributions to unemployment insurance. Claude Brodesser-Akner, NJ.com, Read more
I am outraged at the Chamber’s Ad in the Ridgewood News today. They lied from the beginning with the say “yes” and negotiate size later when there is no negotiation. You try and negotiate and they go around you. We are not a small, rogue, nameless group! Most of us speak at meetings, write letters and emails, and stand on the streets with clipboards. So the paper lets them continue to write lies with no rebuttals?
There was an email floating around today suggesting keeping this transaction off the balance sheet will allow Ridgewood to bond more projects. First, what other massive projects are they planning?? Second, anyone who believes in off balance sheet financing needs a lesson in finance. It is still debt, it needs to be paid back and ratings agencies will still recognize it as leverage.

Congressman Frank Pallone: Fifteen-Dollar Minimum Wage Is Critical for Economic Growth
$40 hamburger in your future ?
Where is the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce ?
On the eve of the national day of action for the “Fight for Fifteen” movement aimed at increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour, Congressman Frank Pallone (D-6) and the healthcare-focused SEIU union held a phone in tele-townhall to discuss why they believe the proposed hike is a critical one. Currently the minimum wage in New Jersey sits at $8.38 per hour. Alyana Alfaro, PolitickerNJ Read more

We Are Seeing The Effects Of Seattle’s $15 An Hour Minimum Wage
Tim Worstall
Possibly the best starting point of this argument is this rather newer post here.
Some time back I wrote a piece entitled “We can predict the effects of Seattle’s $15 an hour minimum wage.” It’s here. And without going into boring detail it essentially said that we’d see what we would expect to see from a rise in the price of something, that is a fall in the demand for it. Ever since I’ve had comments from people insisting that human labor just doesn’t work that way. That if wages rise then actually more people are going to get employed. An example came in only this morning:
Between January and December of 2014, while Seatac’s business owners (and their customers) were absorbing the cost of paying minimum wage employees $15, unemployment decreased 17.46%, falling from 6.3% to 5.2%. It turns out that you CAN increase the minimum wage (even in large increments) and increase overall employment at the same time.
Several of the pictured signs were observed on lawns in front of private residences on Ridgewood’s East Side early this morning, including the Mayor’s home on Linwood Avenue and the Deputy Mayor’s home on Cottage Place.
Although the First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects a property owner’s right to display such signs, is it appropriate for both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to be displaying their respective support for the garage not knowing 1) what the final price tag is, 2) what the design will be, nor 3) how the garage will be funded? In short, they both have little if any factual data about the project, but yet they support it? Duh?
Additionally, what taxpayer funded resources, if any, were used to design, print, and/or distribute these signs? The Mayor mentioned during a recent public meeting how pleased he was that promotional material in support of the referendum was being developed (perhaps an inappropriate comment for an official meeting); did the Village’s contribution to the endeavor stop there, or is there more?
They have zero idea how much taxpayers will be on the hook for this pie in the sky project, but they’re happy to be riding the train out of the station. ALL ABOARD!
