Ridgewood Water does not add fluoride to your drinking water

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Water does not add fluoride to your drinking water.Water hardness in our service area is 14 grains or 250ppm.
If your water is discolored, (gray, brown, yellow, orange) this is most likely due to minerals building up in our water mains. These minerals are harmless, but as more people start watering their lawns and turning on sprinkler systems, these minerals can loosen and end up in the water supply. This discoloration can also occur when Ridgewood Water does routine maintenance on it’s facilities that increases the velocity in the mains. Although it is aesthetically unappealing, it is safe to drink. We recommend avoiding doing laundry until discoloration clears.

If your water has a cloudy or milky appearance this is usually caused by air dissolved in the water. We recommend to take a glass of cold water from the tap and set it on a flat surface. If the water begins to clear from the bottom up within a few minutes, it can be concluded that dissolved air is the cause of the cloudiness. If the water does not clear up or you notice particles settling on the bottom of the glass please contact our treatment facility at 201-670-5526 and notify them of your issue.

If your water has a unusual taste or odor, please contact our treatment facility at 201-670-5526.
Ridgewood Water does not make recommendations as to water filters or softeners.

The Spirit of America’s Story: The Wall is a Traveling Exhibit Commemorating Our Country’s Fight for Freedom from 1775 to Present Day

unnamed1 1

June 30,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, “The Wall is a richly illustrated visual story of America’s struggles for freedom, a visual walk through our country’s history and our fight to be free. Our goal is to capture and preserve the spirit, the sacrifices and rich history of the American people. We do this by honoring those men and women in uniformed service who have and are currently serving and protecting our way of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness both here and abroad.” (Quotation excerpted from www.spiritofamericasstory.com/) Courtesy of Stanley A. Kober .

The Wall is a visual timeline of every major conflict our country has ever faced and see the challenges our military had to overcome. Students of every age were impressed as well as the adults that viewed this display. They left with a clearer understanding of our history and a heartfelt response of patriotism. I cannot believe this group came to our school and did this for such a low cost. They were with us all day, presented to every group that dropped by and then stayed for our evening band concert and presented to all parents that attended. Very professional!” —Teacher

The bike lane to nowhere for no-one

Bike Lane Traffic Easing Ridgewood

June 30,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, on the Ridgewood blog yesterday several readers discussed the,” bike lane to nowhere for no-one” . A  reader asked , “Speaking of the bike lane to nowhere, didn’t the police department recommend portions be removed and didn’t the Village Council pass a resolution to have the work done? Well, it’s still there.”

As far as we know the “bike lane to nowhere or the suicide bike lane” is still there and still leads to nowhere .

While another reader said , “Correction Rutishauser said he would do something and he didn’t. He’s in charge and he as usual, ignored what the residence demanded. And he ignored what the Council told him to do, he should be fired.”

Another reader asked , Please don’t remove the bike lane yet. After all these years, I want to see someone actually use it. Right now, it’s the bike lane to nowhere for no-one. ”

EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY EVENING

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,The Ridgewood Library will be available over the weekend to cool off, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m

The National Weather Servic has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, which is in effect from Sunday afternoon through
Monday evening.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...In the upper 90s on Saturday afternoon and
early evening. Up to 107 in the afternoon and early evening
  Sunday and Monday.

* TIMING...Highest heat indices will occur in the afternoon and
  early evening.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat can cause illness and death among at-
risk population who cannot stay cool. The heat and humidity may
cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees
for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.

An Excessive Heat Watch means that the combination of heat and humidity could create a dangerous situation in which heat
illnesses are possible. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous
activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight
and loose fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at increased risk. Homes without air conditioning
can be much hotter than outdoors.

Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members
and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties...

Bergen...Essex...Passaic...Union...Hudson.

An Ozone Action Day has been declared! Ozone is forecast to reach the unhealthy for sensitive groups category for locations
along the I-95 corridor of New Jersey due to light winds, record high temperatures, and abundant sunshine. Sensitive individuals
including the very young, the elderly, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should avoid strenuous outdoor activities
during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Ridgewood Water Meets Erin Brockovich

glass_of_water_privatisation

June 29,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently released a report raising concerns about the presence of chromium 6 – also known as hexavalent chromium – in public water supplies.  Hexavalent chromium, a suspected carcinogen, is the contaminant made famous by the 2000 movie “Erin Brockovich.”

https://theridgewoodblog.net/facebook-water-filter-ads-rattle-ridgewood-residents/

https://theridgewoodblog.net/environmental-groups-report-finds-arsenic-at-ridgewood-water/

Ridgewood Water shares the EWG’s concern for water quality and public health protection. Water utilities currently monitor for “total” chromium, of which hexavalent chromium is a component. Most public water utilities, including Ridgewood Water, are in compliance with the existing standard.

The Safe Drinking Water Act, which was established to protect the quality of drinking water, requires a rigorous scientific approach for evaluating contaminants for regulation. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been looking at health effects data on hexavalent chromium. Ridgewood Water has been testing for this substance as part of the unregulated contaminant sampling program which provides data to EPA for scientific evaluation.

It’s important to remember that detecting a substance in water does not always imply a health risk. The key question that researchers seek to answer is whether the substance presents health concerns at the level it is detected. That’s why the federal regulatory process requires EPA to examine potential health impacts of the substance, paths of exposure and occurrence data. A thorough evaluation of all this data increases the likelihood that new regulations will offer meaningful risk reduction.  Ridgewood Water is committed to meeting all regulatory standards for public water supplies including any new requirements for hexavalent chromium that may be instituted.

Washington DC, The Trump administration on Thursday released a proposed draft of its new 1040 tax form, which is shorter than the current form but could require additional documentation depending on the financial circumstances of the taxpayer.

Draft 1040

1040

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which eliminated certain deductions, helped the administration shrink the size of the main individual tax form. Items that used to be included on the main form, however, are now moved to subsequent schedules. It should be noted that these documents are just drafts and may not reflect the finished product.

Dump trucks rumble down South Broad Street from Brogan Cadillac site – Residents furious

June 29,2018

Ridgewood NJ, Despite objections voiced by local residents to Ridgewood Village Manager Heather Mailander, and to members of the Ridgewood Village Council, heavily loaded tandem axle dump trucks are being permitted to use portions of South Broad Street that are primarily residential as a travel route to and from the former Brogan Cadillac site, which is now undergoing demolition in preparation for the start of high density housing construction. The Village had considered the temporary removal of a speed hump in order to reduce the likelihood of noise and foundation damaging vibrations, but as these photos (taken on 06/28) indicate, that did not happen.

Who does Mena know in RW? Why is this even being posted here? Just to get sympathy? Money? What?

Reader responds , “Ummm, probably because the RW Blog covers local, STATE, and national news? Up there at the top in the header right under the giant title “The Ridgewood Blog”. Also, because it’s a human-interest story, one in line with the laissez-fairs perspective, which is also in big letters up top? Maybe TRWB is just damn good at finding and sharing interesting current events. Also, why does someone have to have an ulterior motive for wanting to conduct themselves peacefully on their own property? If you’re cool with the government coming down on you and your family and your neighbors arbitrarily, then move along. What’s your ulterior motive for presupposing an ulterior motive?
