>205 Lotte Road : Village’s record in dealing with these types of issues is not the best

While I agree that the Village’s record in dealing with these types of issues is not the best, the issue is not as straight forward as one might think. The fact is that they can issue all of the notices and summonses they want and it may not solve the problem. If the owner does not have the money they are not going to do anything. If the owner is bankrupted nothing is going to happen.

My sister lives in another town and there is a house not too far from her in the same condition. The town issued summonses and the owner abandon the house and moved out of state. They can’t sue the owner because she has no assets and they no authority to force her to return to NJ to answer to building code violations.

The bank now owns the house and they will not do anything but list the property for sale. The bank is also located out of state and will not even respond to the town.

I hate to say it but we are going to be seeing more and more of these issues

>205 Lotte Road : why doesn’t the VOR enforce their laws?

WHY doesnt the VOR enforce their laws? That is the question here. It should not be up to a neighbor to hire an attorney and chase this builder. Should not be up to you bloggers to post the man’s home address and shame him into completing this project. It should be up to the Village.

The neighbors pay their taxes. They keep up their homes. One call to the Village Manager’s office, and we should see some movement. Ken, thats where you are failing. Your staff will not take action until there is a threat of a lawsuit. Thats the issue here. Should never come down to neighbor agst neighbor or neighbor agst builder. This is where the Village government steps in. Thats why we all pay taxes

Offshore backbone developer foresees huge wind industry along Jersey coast

While New Jersey is moving to develop 1,100 megawatts of offshore wind power, Bob Mitchell envisions a much more audacious industry springing up off the coast of the Eastern Seaboard — one he claims could lower steep energy bills for consumers and create tens of thousands of jobs.

Mitchell is the chief executive officer of Atlantic Wind Connection (AWC), a company seeking to build an offshore electric backbone transmission system capable of supporting up to 7,000 megawatts of offshore wind, a $30 billion industry that would strengthen the reliability of the nation’s largest power grid.  (Johnson, NJ Spotlight)

‘Swatting’ a high-tech trend in 911 hoaxes

THE RECORD

A California couple with a 2-year-old daughter is awakened late at night by heavily armed police storming their home after a false report of a shooting.

A Texas family is stunned when officers with automatic weapons respond to their house expecting a drug-fueled murderer who is demanding $50,000 in exchange for hostages.

And a Wyckoff neighborhood is put on lockdown as the Bergen County SWAT team shoots tear gas into what proves to be a home occupied only by a cat.

In each case, the people who wound up in the crosshairs were actually victims of a dangerous and increasingly common hoax known as “swatting,” so called because a bogus emergency call prompts the response of a SWAT team.

New Jersey tells Federal Energy Regulatory Commission new capacity is desperately needed

New Jersey is not the only state struggling to find a way to convince power suppliers to build new generating capacity, a problem that has spiked electric bills here and elsewhere and heightened concerns about whether there is enough juice to keep the lights on.

At a technical conference before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), New Jersey officials and others told the agency a new rule adopted this spring could make it virtually impossible to develop new generating capacity in areas along the eastern seaboard where it is desperately needed.  (Johnson, NJ Spotlight)

$500 million deal at Port Newark may bring 800 jobs

With New Jersey’s unemployment rate outpacing the nation, Gov. Chris Christie visited Port Newark on Wednesday to tout a $500 million deal that could lead to 800 new jobs.

The deal with Port Newark Container Terminal, made in June, calls for a 20-year extension of the terminal’s existing lease through 2050, subject to PNCT’s investment of $500 million.  (DeFalco, The Associated Press)

THE RECORD

Michael Schlosser, 11, inputs his information at the Sports Institute at Valley Hospital. The institute is offering young athletes a computer evaluation that can be used as a baseline comparison should the student ever get a concussion.

Many high schools in the region provide what is known as baseline screening tests to be used as a comparison in case an athlete is injured. Now parents of younger athletes are also demanding the tests.

Students as young as 10 are taking the ImPACT test, a neurocognitive computer evaluation that records memory, reaction time and multitasking ability. If taken before and after an injury, the tests can help physicians determine the severity of a concussion and allow them to assess when a student has recovered enough to resume play.

The Valley Hospital Sports Institute in Ridgewood recently offered the screening to children — and more than 25 young athletes showed up for the 30-minute test.

Thank you to all the bloggers for your understanding and support. Your voices are very important to us in our struggle to explain our position and uniqueness of the Ridgewood market to Ford Motor Company. We will be sharing your comments with Ford management in Dearborn. As most of you know, we have a very vibrant and busy service and parts department, servicing not only individual customers but over 35 municipalities from Bergen County. We service local police departments, DPW’s, ambulance companies and even school busses. We are investing a lot of money to bring business to Ridgewood and we are probably one of the most substantial tax payer in Ridgewood. Our effort is recognized and appreciated by Ford and its Parts and Service division. We just can’t understand the opposition from sales division. How much could we “hurt” Ford Motor Company by selling more of their product and giving an option to our long time, loyal customers between Lincoln and Ford without sending them elsewhere. It’s not fair and highly prejudicial to you, the customer and unethical to us.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call me or email me directly.

Best regards,

>Welcome to the third world

>Welcome to the third world

A U.S. default isn’t a matter of “if” but “when,” David Murrin, chief investment officer at Emergent Asset Management, told CNBC.  “It’s inevitable that the U.S. will default-it’s essentially an empire which is overextended and in decline-and that its financial system will go with it,” he said.

The question is: Does the U.S. default when it is forced to by the outside world, probably the Chinese, or does it take the option to default on its own terms in such a way that it may have a strategic advantage, Murrin said.

Republicans and Democrats are currently locked in a debate on how to cut the U.S. budget deficit, and on whether the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling should be raised. Both parties need to come to a consensus by Aug. 2, otherwise the country will be in a state of technical default.

In his book “Breaking the Code of History,” Murrin argues that the balance of power has shifted away from the West, with America as the superpower, towards the East, led by China.

He believes the U.S. cannot afford to compete with the rise of Eastern powers.

The Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department is offering kayaking sessions to Village residents at Graydon Pool this summer.

Instruction for adults and teens will be led by Betty Wiest, a member of the Hackensack River Canoe and Kayak Club. All equipment, including kayaks, paddles and PFDs, will be provided by Eastern Mountain Sports in Paramus.

Sessions will be offered rain or shine on Saturday, July 9 and Saturday, Aug. 13 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. A trip to Monksville Reservoir will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, with details to follow.
