My suspicion is that NJT desired cost savings from less maintenance, no need for crews to reverse seats and elimination of the issue with passengers flipping seats making collecting fares/keeping track of paid passengers more difficult and limiting capacity on peak trains since 4 longer-legged passengers cannot comfortably sit in pairs of seats facing each other.

Ridgewood NJ, Rules change; disposal of grass clippings – Grass clippings must be segregated from other yard waste and cannot be placed in the street with leaves.

Effective immediately per Ordinance #3550, approved by Village Council on 10/12/2016:

A.  Grass clippings cannot be placed in the same container as brush, leaves and other vegetative debris.

B.  Placement of yard waste in the street that is not containerized is only permitted during the placement dates designated by the annualLeaf Collection Schedule Notice, and at all times shall not be placed closer than 10 feet from any storm drain inlet, and may not contain any brush or grass clippings.

No details have been provided yet as to what impact, if any, these changes will bring to the Village’s current yard waste pick up schedule (i.e., once per week during curbside yard waste pick up season).

The changes were made because:

1.  An NJDEP advisory that grass clippings can no longer be deposited in the Village’s Lakeview Compost Facility.

2.  Compost that is free of grass clippings can be sold at a higher price.

Ridgewood Continues to be Hit with Incidents of Identity Theft

Ridgewood NJ, more identity fraud incidents have been reported in Ridgewood . The Ridgewood Police have recently reported ;

A Cambridge Road resident responded to the Police department on October 5, 2016 to report a Theft of Identity. The victim reported she received two Chase credit cards in the mail without her authorization. The victim contacted Chase Bank and was informed someone used her personal identity and applied for the credit cards. Chase Bank cancelled the credit cards and is investigating the incident.

On October 7, 2016 a Glenwood Road resident responded to the Police Department to report Identity Theft in the past. The victim reported discovering an unauthorized credit card purchase on his Chase credit card in the amount of $1527 from Bob’s Furniture. The victim reported he was satisfied that Chase reversed the unauthorized charge and he only requested documentation of the incident.

10 Ways To Protect Yourself From Identity Theft

Shielding your private information with no risk of a breakdown may be impossible these days. But there are some simple ways to protect you from becoming a victim of Identity Theft.

Simple but very important, tips to protect you and your name.

1. Destroy private records and statements. Tear up – or, if you prefer, shred – credit cards statements, solicitations, and other documents that contain private financial information.

2. Secure your mail. Empty you mailbox quickly, lock it or get a P.O. box so criminals don’t have a chance to snatch credit card pitches. Never mail outgoing bill payments and checks from home. They can be stolen from your mailbox and the payee’s name erased with solvents. Mail them from the post office or another secure location.

3. Safeguard your Social Security number. Never carry your card with you, or any other card that may have your number, like a health insurance card. Don’t put your number on your checks. If you think the request is legitimate, contact the company yourself and confirm what you were told before revealing any of your personal data.

7. Take your name off marketers’ hit lists. In addition to the national Do-Not-Call registry (1-888-382-1222), you can also cut down on junk mail and opt out of credit card solicitations.

8. Be more defensive with personal information. Ask salespeople and other if information such as Social Security or driver’s license number is absolutely necessary. Ask anyone who does require your Social Security number about their privacy policy and that you do not want your information given to anyone else.

Ridgewood NJ,  The Village of Ridgewood became one of many Bergen County NJ communities to honor law enforcement personnel by striping a main thoroughfare with a blue colored traffic line. Ridgewood’s “blue line” is located on North Maple Avenue, between Franklin Avenue and Linwood Avenue, right in front of Village Hall and Ridgewood Police Headquarters. Village officials gathered in front of Village Hall on Tuesday, 10/11 to commemorate the event.

Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey Governor Christopher Christie attended a political fundraiser in Ridgewood on Tuesday October 11th and flew into the Village on a NJ State Police helicopter. Members of Ridgewood’s police, fire, and Emergency Services departments were on standby at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School for the early evening helicopter landing. The helicopter landed without incident; a two (2) vehicle motorcade (NJ State Police provided) subsequently transported the Governor and his party from the school to the $5,000 per attendee fundraising event, which was held at the Park West Tavern on Oak Street.

Reader says Ridgewood is in the process of taxing itself to death

Ridgewood is in the process of taxing itself to death. Look at houses at the high end of the market that are already not selling. This will creep down to the middle market as we continue to make avoidable expenditures like this that increase our taxes. Remember that we already have unsustainable union contracts and expenditures legislated by Trenton to swallow every year. We need to be looking for ways to reduce spending – not increase it for the benefit of the few.

PARTIAL RAIL SERVICE SCHEDULED TO RESUME MONDAY FROM RIDGEWOOD TO HOBOKEN TERMINAL

Main/Bergen County, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis Lines to return to Hoboken on weekday schedule with adjustments

Ridgewood NJ,  NJ TRANSIT will reopen a portion of Hoboken Terminal to commuter rail service for the start of service on Monday, October 10, 2016.

Cross-honoring will continue on Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, NJ TRANSIT bus and private carriers ONLY.

A section of the terminal suffered extensive damage following a train accident September 29.  Due to the ongoing National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation, debris removal and safety concerns, the entire Hoboken Terminal was placed out of service.

Beginning with the first train Monday morning, NJ TRANSIT will reopen Tracks 10-17 for rail service. Tracks 1-9 will remain out of service until further notice as repair work in that section of the terminal continues.

When the partial reopening occurs, Main/Bergen County, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis Line trains will return to a weekday schedule, with some adjustments, to and from Hoboken.  Select express trains will be eliminated and certain other trains will be combined. Customers are urged to go to njtransit.com for more specific information after 10 p.m. tonight.

On the Montclair-Boonton Line, trains originating west of Montclair State University (MSU), including from Denville will operate into Hoboken, with additional stops east of MSU.

Most Gladstone Branch trains to Hoboken will be restored.

North Jersey Coast Line and Raritan Valley Line trains scheduled to terminate in Hoboken will continue to terminate at Newark Penn Station.

Because rail service will be modified in and out of the terminal, other NJ TRANSIT bus, rail and light rail services may experience crowding conditions and delays.

As repair work continues at the terminal, customers are advised to stay clear of all work areas.

The Hoboken Terminal waiting room, Customer Service office and restrooms will be open.  In addition, there will be limited Ticket Vending Machines located in the waiting room.  Customers are urged to download the NJ TRANSIT App and sign up for MyTix to purchase their tickets.

NJ TRANSIT bus, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, PATH and NY Waterway also continue to operate in and out of Hoboken on their regular routes and schedules.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood PD, FD, and EMS personnel responded to a “pedestrian struck” report on Friday, 10/07 at approximately 1900 hours. The incident occurred on East Ridgewood Avenue near Somerville Road. With the assistance of a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital, the victim was evaluated on location before being transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit. The extent of the victim’s injuries were not made public at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and was cooperating with police.

Hoboken Terminal service disruption limits MetLife Stadium train capacity for tonight’s Beyonce concert

Ridgewood NJ,  Due to the ongoing service disruption at Hoboken Terminal, NJ TRANSIT is advising customers that there will be reduced capacity on MetLife Stadium trains for tonight’s Beyonce concert.

The accident in Hoboken on September 29th has impacted track and yard space and results in less equipment than the usual complement for stadium events.

Customers may experience overcrowding and possible delays caused by congestion and should plan to build in extra time to travel to MetLife Stadium, and plan for extreme wait times following the concert.

As an alternate, customers can also use the Coach USA 351 bus route from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to the stadium.  The Coach USA 351 Express bus to the event will begin loading at 4:00 pm from 41st Street between 8th & 9th Avenue and will run continuously until 8:00 pm.  The last bus will depart from the Met Life Stadium 60 minutes after the event ends.  Limited seating is available.

Please Note: There is NO direct service from Hoboken to the Meadowlands.  Connections must be made in Secaucus.

Customers traveling on NJ TRANSIT trains to the Meadowlands Sports Complex should purchase their round trip tickets from their originating station TO THE MEADOWLANDS SPORTS COMPLEX to avoid delays boarding trains.  Tickets purchased on the train will include a $5 surcharge for each ticket.

NJ TRANSIT offers Meadowlands online ticketing option where customers can purchase round-trip adult tickets from their originating station to the Meadowlands Sport Complex.  Up to eight tickets may be purchased in one transaction.

NJ TRANSIT MyTix℠ customers can also use the mobile app to conveniently purchase tickets to the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Mobile tickets include a barcode to scan for access through the fare gates. Select Meadowlands as the destination for events at MetLife Stadium. The NJ TRANSIT MyTix℠ app is available free from the App Store℠ and Google Play™.

Ridgewood NJ, The adult male driver of a Jeep SUV was taken into custody, handcuffed, and transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters following a single vehicle crash (into a tree) at the intersection of Godwin Avenue and South Monroe Street, Ridgewood, late night on Thursday, 10/06. A small, crash related engine compartment fire in the Jeep was extinguished by Ridgewood FD members. Ridgewood EMS responded to evaluate the driver; he refused medical aid. The crashed Jeep was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.

NTSB Reports Video and Event Recorders Recovered from Hoboken Train Crash

Hoboken Commuter Train Event, Video Recorders Provide Investigators Usable Data

Ridgewood NJ, The National Transportation Safety Board released Thursday details downloaded from the event data and forward-facing video recorders on a NJ Transit commuter train involved in the Sept. 29, 2016, accident at the Hoboken Terminal, Hoboken, New Jersey.

The following information, gathered from both recorders, is preliminary and subject to change as data is validated.
·         Information from the forward-facing video and event data recorders was successfully recovered Thursday at the NTSB’s recorder laboratory here. Both recorders appear to have been working as designed, and captured the engineer’s entire trip that morning, including the accident sequence. The forward-facing, color video from the cab car of train 1614 is of good quality and includes audio from an exterior microphone. Information obtained from the recorders includes:
·         The forward facing video showed the cab car colliding with and overriding the bumping post at the end of the track #5 platform at the Hoboken Terminal. A large flash was observed as the car collided with the panel just beyond the bumping post.
·         The forward facing video recorder captured the sound of one blast of the train’s horn about one minute before the collision, while the train was in the yard leading to the terminal. The train’s bell began sounding shortly afterward and continued until the end of the recording.
·         The event recorder indicates throttle increased from idle to the #4 position while the train was traveling about 8 mph, approximately 38 seconds before the collision. Train speed began to increase and reached a maximum of about 21 mph.
·         According to the event recorder data the throttle position went from #4 to idle just prior to the collision, and then engineer-induced emergency braking occurred less than a second before the collision with the bumping post.
·         The event recorder shows train speed was about 21 mph when it collided with the bumping post. Event recorder speeds during the final seconds are consistent with train speed estimates obtained from the NTSB’s preliminary analysis of images from the forward facing video camera.
A group of technical experts from the NTSB and the parties to the investigation is scheduled convene at NTSB headquarters, Washington, Oct. 11, to continue to verify and validate the data recovered from both cab car recorders.
No analysis is provided in the facts released from the event and video recorder data extractions. The NTSB has not determined probable cause and cautions against drawing conclusions from these facts alone. Analysis of the findings from these recorders and from other facts gathered during our comprehensive investigation will take place after the factual record is complete.
The investigation remains in the fact-gathering phase, which could take a year or more.
