Ridgewood Water Leads the Way in PFAS Reduction Efforts

In a groundbreaking move, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued its first-ever national rule on Wednesday, April 10, to regulate the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly referred to as “forever chemicals,” in drinking water. This rule mandates that public water suppliers across the United States must reduce the levels of PFOA and PFOS to a maximum of 4 parts per trillion by 2029.

Ridgewood Water Says it Will be Compliance with New EPA “Forever Chemicals” Standards by 2026

Ridgewood NJ, as previously reported on the Ridgewood blog on April 10, 2024 the US EPA released the first national regulations on PFAS Compounds. Water Utilities around the country will now have 3 years to test their water sources and two additional years to take action such as installing treatment in order to be in compliance.

‘Forever chemicals’ have been linked to Breast and Gynecological cancers

Hoosick Falls NY, Loreen Hackett faced the daunting challenge of battling cancer not once, but twice, before reaching the age of 50. Her first encounter with the disease occurred in her 20s when cancerous cells were discovered in her cervix, prompting her to undergo a hysterectomy at the young age of 28. Nearly two decades later, she found herself confronting cancer again, this time diagnosed with breast cancer.

Ridgewood Water is Working on a Water Main Replacement Along Dunham Trail

Ridgewood Water (RW) has contracted Shauger Property Services Inc. to complete a water main replacement along the commonly known PSE&G Utility Right of Way (PSEG ROW) in Ridgewood from and including Dunham Trail (at Spring Avenue), along the edge of Brookside Field, to just north of East Ridgewood Avenue.  The existing 12” diameter transmission main is critical aging infrastructure to the water utility and will be upsized to a 20” diameter water main. The work also includes installation of a 10” diameter raw water main as part of RW’s PFAS treatment centralization project.
