Since 1968, Citizens for Swimming has hosted summer day campers from Paterson for 9 days of swim lessons and fun in the water.
2017 will be our 50th year at the pool!
Ridgewood NJ, The children we host have little access to swimming. C4S provides them with a few weeks respite from the summer heat, and swimming lessons that build water safety skills. Swimming is not just fun in the sun, it is a practical skill that many of these kids have limited access to. African American children ages 5-19 drown at rates more than 5 times higher than their white counterparts. YMCA swim instructors provide Citizens for Swimming kids with skills and experiences that will serve them for a lifetime.
We spend $110 per child for our 9-day swim program. This includes bus transportation to and from Paterson (by far our biggest expense), discounted Graydon Pool admission, and supplies like bathing suits and beach towels. Some of our kids arrive the first day wearing shorts instead of a bathing suit and carrying one of their mom’s good bath towels. We provide a bathing suit and a beach towel to every child who needs one

Got any quarters? If you plan on parking for a day at the beach you’ll likely need plenty to feed the meters. And we all know what happens if your meter runs out and your car is still there— That’s right, parking tickets!
The truth is, you’re a lot more likely to get a ticket in some shore towns than others. We’ve compiled a list from state municipal court records for a year-long period in July 2015 to June 2016.
We’ve calculated how many tickets Jersey shore towns write per square mile and ranked them from 44, the least likely place you’ll get a shore ticket, to the No. 1 town for papering over cars.
“My kids tried RBSA softball camp for the first time and LOVED it. I highly recommend it. The counselors taught them great skills. The great thing is it was only $90 a week. You can also pay extra for private lessons for hitting, fielding and pitching.”
The perfect destinations for your trip down the Shore.

For NJ.com
With the 4th of July just around the corner, families are getting ready to kickoff the summer at the Jersey Shore — and so are the hundreds of people up and down the state who don red suits and spend their summers perched by the ocean, eyes fixed on the waves, waiting to make a move if any of the swimmers appear in distress.
But in recent years, finding qualified — and enough — lifeguards to fill those stands has become more challenging for New Jersey’s beach patrols. Coastal living expenses, demanding college athletic programs and a difficult job market post-graduation are partially to blame.

This is the busy time of year for Bradley Solmsen.
As the executive director of Surprise Lake Camp, he needs to make sure that his facility, located on 460 acres in Cold Spring, NY, is ready to welcome its incoming class of 650 kids, who will begin arriving on June 29.
Surprise Lake is among 2,000 licensed summer residential and day camps operating in the state. Collectively, as they pay staff, handle repairs and capital expenditures and cater to both campers and their families, they generate a direct economic impact of $1.3 billion, according to a new report by the American Camp Association, Northeast Region (New England, New York and New Jersey).
Overall, New York camps employ 60,000 seasonal and 3,500 full-time workers who receive more than $411 million in wages. In addition to payroll, New York camps spend more than $1.2 billion on goods and services throughout the Northeast, including food, fuel, supplies and banking, according to the report.
