Cardinal Tobin to Celebrate Opening Mass for Jubilee Year at Newark Cathedral

Newark NJ, this month, the universal Catholic Church will begin its Jubilee Year 2025, a yearlong journey of spiritual renewal intended for the faithful to become “Pilgrims of Hope” in the face of global strife. To commemorate this moment locally, the Archdiocese of Newark will hold an Opening Mass celebrated by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 12 p.m. in Newark’s Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Newark NJ, the Archdiocese of Newark will gather to celebrate and honor the dedication and sacrifices of New Jersey’s law enforcement personnel during the 31st Annual Blue Mass on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. This event, led by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, invites officers, families, and community members of all faiths to reflect on the service and bravery of police officers across federal, state, county, and municipal levels.

This year’s liturgy will feature guest celebrant Father Anthony Bozeman, SSJ, a prolific evangelist who also serves as the academic dean of St. Joseph Seminary in Washington, D.C.; assistant vocations director for the Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart; and administrator of Our Lady of Grace Church in Reserve, La.

Cardinal Tobin will also ordain two transitional deacons during a separate ordination at the Cathedral Basilica on Sunday, May 21, at noon.

Newark NJ, High school students across the Archdiocese of Newark were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for outstanding achievement on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in 2021. The PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test for entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program.
