Due to Northeast Corridor Train Derailment NJT will continue to operate an adjusted schedule

Ridgewood-Trainstation1_theridgewoodblog

Cross-Honoring Continues, Delays and Crowding Expected

April 4, 2017

Ridgewood NJ,  NJ TRANSIT will continue to operate an adjusted schedule to and from Penn Station New York (PSNY) for Tuesday, April 4th.  The reduced train service is due to track constraints at PSNY following the slow-speed derailment of a NJ TRANSIT train Monday morning.

At approximately 9 a.m. Monday morning, NJ TRANSIT’s Northeast Corridor line train #3926 experienced a slow-speed derailment while pulling in to Track 9 at New York’s Penn Station.  Three cars in the middle of the ten car train derailed.  These were cars 5, 6, and 7.

Northeast Corridor (NEC) and North Jersey Coast Line (NJCL) trains will operate on a HOLIDAY schedule with some additional service.  Customers should locate the SATURDAY/SUNDAY/HOLIDAY schedule on their timetables and note that all trains will be operating, including those listed in the color-shaded columns.  Due to the holiday schedule, rail service with NOT be operating to/from Jersey Avenue and Avenel stations.

NJ TRANSIT and private bus carriers are increasing bus service as much as possible on routes along the affected rail lines.  Academy will enhance their PNC park-and-ride service to accommodate North Jersey Coast Line customers.  Suburban Transit will also add service to accommodate Northeast Corridor customers.

MidTOWN Direct trains will continue to operate in and out of Hoboken Terminal where customers can access PATH and NJ TRANSIT bus service.  PATH will also be increasing service.

Raritan Valley Line service will operate on a regular weekday schedule and originate/terminate at Newark Penn Station.

Main/Bergen, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis Lines will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Atlantic City Rail line rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Customers are encouraged to check njtransit.com for complete details.

Cross honoring remains in effect with NJ TRANSIT bus, private carrier bus, NY Waterway ferry, and PATH at Newark, Hoboken and 33rd Street.

Hoboken services will also be impacted due to the additional trains in the terminal. Because of track limitation in the terminal some Summit-bound trains will be impacted.

Due to the circumstances, impacted customers are advised to build in additional travel time as delays and overcrowding conditions are anticipated.

Jersey lawmakers look to dig the $135B pension hole even deeper

Sweeney & Prieto

By Post Editorial Board

April 2, 2017 | 7:32pm

Jersey lawmakers just don’t get it: The state’s massive pension-fund shortfalls last week prompted Moody’s to downgrade Trenton’s credit rating for the 11th time under Gov. Chris Christie, yet the Legislature wants to make the problems worse.

Moody’s cited New Jersey’s gargantuan, and growing, unfunded pension liabilities as key to its decision to lower the state’s rating from A2 to A3 — the second downgrade in four months.

The move reflects the “negative impact of significant pension underfunding” and “a persistent structural imbalance,” wrote Moody’s analyst Baye Larsen. Despite Christie’s notable boosts in payments to the funds, state contributions “remain well below the actuarial recommended” amount.

Yet lawmakers (of both parties) want Christie to sign a bill that would hand control of one of the state’s biggest funds — for police and firefighter pensions — to their union representatives.

“Giving management to the pension beneficiaries removes political interest from the investments and places responsibility with the employees who will benefit,” says Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D).

Uh, not quite — because the employees wouldn’t face any risk. With a majority of votes on the new board, union reps could hike benefits and slice the amount members must chip in. And if that plunges the fund further underwater, Jersey’s taxpayers would be the ones on the hook.

It is True The Village of Ridgewood Actually Makes Money on Graydon Pool

Graydon-_Crowded_baby_beach_water_2012_theridgewoodblog

April 3,2017
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, A reader recent stated during a discussion  , “The Village actually makes money on Graydon. This was confirmed several times by the Mayor and Village Manager during recent Village Council meetings. In a nutshell, revenues from the pool exceed expenses by a significant amount and have done so for many years in a row”

According to Deputy Mayor Mike Sedon,” In looking at this year’s Village budget– tab 10– Department of Parks and Recreation 2017 budget under Graydon Pool the total expense listed in the actual 2016 budget was $273,895.87. This included temporary and seasonal salaries and wages– $186,798, and $87,097.87 in other expenses such as postage for flyers, printing costs, maintenance, supplies chemicals and several other items needed to run the facility. These were last year’s total expenses as listed in this year’s municipal budget.

In 2016 Graydon Pool brought in $336,177. The revenue breaks down as follows:
Ridgewood resident adult– $78,960
Ridgewood resident child– $118,140
Senior/disabled–                 $11,040 (the annual badge is sold for $30 to these patrons)
Nonresident adult–             $29,680
Nonresident child–             $11,025
POS–                                      $87,332 (includes daily guest passes and outside camps)

So with revenues totaling $336,117 minus total expenses of 273,895.87 there was a positive difference of $62,281.13 in 2016. This make Graydon cash flow positive and in essence Graydon Pool is actually subsidizing other parts of Ridgewood’s budget.

RIDGEWOOD – The captain needed a moment.

The emotions hit Hannah Cermack in the huddle when her turn came to offer closing remarks on one of the most meaningful wins of her career.

An opening week victory felt more like a playoff one for Ridgewood. The top-ranked Maroons (2-0) knocked off the team that ended their last two seasons. They passed their first early test with a hard-fought 7-4 win over Summit on Saturday.

Ridgewood NJ, Charlamagne Tha God—the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pissing People Off,” co-host of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and “hip-hop’s Howard Stern”—shares his unlikely success story as well as how embracing one’s truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness.

In his new book, Charlamagne Tha God presents his comic, often controversial, and always brutally honest insights on how living an authentic life is the quickest path to success. Beginning with his journey from the small town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina to his headline grabbing interviews with celebrities like Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Hillary Clinton, he shares how he turned his troubled early life around by owning his (many) mistakes and refusing to give up on his dreams, even after his controversial opinions got him fired from several on-air jobs. Combining his own story with bold advice and his signature commitment to honesty at all costs, Charlamagne hopes this book will give others the confidence to live their own truths.

“I wrote this for the dreamers, for the optimists; this book isn’t for pessimists,” Charlamagne told HipHopDX. “This book is about embracing who and what you are regardless of race, gender, sexuality, and class. God gave you the privilege of this thing called life so regardless of what this society tells you that you can’t do and what you don’t have to understand you lack nothing God gave you everything you need to succeed.”

Reader explans the loss of the WIBIT at Graydon Pool

WIBIT_theridgewoodblog

During the end of the season when the WIBIT was offered, it was vandalized (intentionally punctured) prior to it being stored for the winter. The cost to patch it up was significant enough to keep it in storage. Additionally, the WIBIT required a lifeguard to be present on it which limited staffing in other parts of the pool and the use did not justify that level of staffing. A water slide would have been a better use of the money.

This is what a WIBIT is: https://www.wibitsports.com/open-water/

Reader says supporting simple, low-cost, low-impact, high-ROI programs undermines their entire narrative of over-developing Ridgewood

ridgewood train station parkiong

The crowd who loves high-density CBD housing, massive hospital expansions, and giant money losing garages hate adding more parking to the train station and CBD in a simple and low-cost manner. Why? Because supporting simple, low-cost, low-impact, high-ROI programs undermines their entire narrative of over-developing. Is Sears failing from a lack of parking? Is Englewood, NJ struggling with store-front retail due to a lack of parking? We have the parking, the very well done Walker and Maser reports show we don’t use what we have. Why don’t we try maximizing all the space we have already dedicated to parking first, then think about building. The garages all lose money even while requiring huge fee increases and are really subsidies for the local developer and a couple land owners in the CBD.

Reader says the garage, was promised to the developers so that they could legally provide less parking

Paul_Aronsohn_dunking_theridgewoodblog

Halaby et al do not favor any parking solutions except the garage, promised by former Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli and former Mayor Paul Aronsohn  to the developers so that they could legally provide less parking on their own apartment properties. Resolve the parking situation in other ways and the (unwanted, unneeded, solution-less) garage goes away. We can’t have that!!!!!!!

RIDGEWOOD – In preparation for the potential adoption of permanent two-day-per-week water restrictions, the village’s environmental committee hosted a forum on water conservation Wednesday evening.

An ordinance introduced on March 9 would limit use of automatic irrigation systems to twice per week, from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., for residential and commercial properties. Exceptions are made for hand-held hoses and drip irrigation systems.

LAX: Championship rematch: No. 7 Summit and No. 1 Ridgewood to face off Saturday after memorable T of C final

RHS_Girls_Lacross_therigdewoodblog

By Evan Slavit | For NJ Advance
on March 31, 2017 4:12 PM, updated March 31, 2017 6:53 PM

Last year’s Tournament of Champions final was as good as it gets.

Both Summit, No 7 in the NJ.com Top 20, and No. 1 Ridgewood had improbable comebacks late in the game, and it took to double overtime to decide a winner after the two New Jersey powers battled to a one-goal game earlier in the season.

Summit ultimately prevailed by an 11-10 score, winning its first Tournament of Champions title and keeping Ridgewood from winning its third and first since 2011, thanks to a three-goal comeback late in the second half. Ridgewood’s heroics was a goal from Lillie Kloak, who tied the game with 18 seconds left after Summit took the lead in the final few minutes.

Now, with the rain unlikely to postpone Saturday’s noon contest, the two are set up for another classic.

It’s not exactly the same cast of characters, with Summit losing one of the more talented senior classes that included NJ.com Player of the Year Sara Syznal, as well as Catherine Cordrey, Julia Persche, Callie Humphrey, Maggie Moriarty and Teia Ross.

There’ll still be plenty of firepower on both sides, though.
