The update explains a series of high-stakes logistical decisions made by emergency personnel—including a mandatory “controlled detonation” on Veterans Field and an unexpected conflict with global sporting events that eliminated any chance of a rain date.

The Veterans Field Controlled Detonation Explained
Many local residents were startled by explosions after the official cancellation notice went out. According to Village Manager Keith Kazmark, the Ridgewood Fire Department faced an immediate safety crisis: the massive pyrotechnics display had already been completely set up on Veterans Field when the severe weather hit.

Without these vital regional assets, Ridgewood lacks the baseline emergency personnel required to safely secure and conduct a major fireworks launch this weekend.

While a weekend makeup date is impossible, the celebration isn’t completely dead. The Village has announced plans to meet with the local 4th of July Committee to explore scheduling an alternative community fireworks display later this year as part of the ongoing America250 milestone festivities.

Its a cost issue
Glad they called it off because true in fact the storm that they predicted was brutal, with high winds. As such, why take the risk to dedonate the fireworks in high winds. Moreover there were zero police or fire around vets or Graydon when they were during them. Zero. All fencing was already taken down so people and cars were 20 feet away. Don’t listen to everything you read by KK. And how many RW EMS, fire and police are going to FIFA. Last, I would like to see the minutes of the July 4th committee where they talked about contingency plans and FIFA.
