Ridgewood NJ, What was supposed to be a night of celebration turned into a evening of emergency responses in Bergen County. Following the last-minute cancellation of Ridgewood’s traditional July 4th fireworks display, a fast-moving and incredibly intense thunderstorm swept through the Village early Saturday evening, leaving a trail of property damage, downed utility poles, and snapped wires in its wake.

Local first responders, including the Ridgewood Police Department, Ridgewood FD/EMS, and Ridgewood Emergency Services, worked around the clock as dozens of emergency calls flooded the dispatch lines.
Here is a look at the severe damage left behind by the holiday storm and how close calls avoided a local tragedy.
Near Misses: Berkshire Road Home Crushed
The sheer force of the storm’s wind gusts became clear as heavy trees began uprooting across local residential blocks.
In the 400 block of Berkshire Road, emergency crews rushed to the scene where a massive tree had crashed directly onto a single-family home. Fortunately, the house was unoccupied at the exact moment of impact, preventing what could have been a catastrophic situation.
Luxury Sedan Trapped on Circle Avenue
Just streets away, the severe weather claimed another victim on the roadways. In the 100 block of Circle Avenue, an Alfa Romeo luxury sedan was completely pinned beneath a massive fallen tree.
In an incredibly lucky turn of events, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in either the Berkshire Road house crushing or the Circle Avenue vehicular entrapment.
First Responders Swarm the Village
The severe storm sliced utility lines and knocked down poles, creating immediate fire and electrocution hazards throughout the area. Teams from the Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47, local police, and volunteer emergency services coordinated rapidly to secure live wires, clear blocked thoroughfares, and evaluate structural damages.
Utility crews are continuing to work to safely restore infrastructure lines and remove dense tree debris from the roadways. Local authorities urge residents to stay cautious, treat all downed wires as live, and report any lingering power grid issues immediately.
