Woodland Park NJ, a 14-year-old boy was tragically killed in a bicycle collision with a luxury SUV in Woodland Park on Monday afternoon, officials confirmed.
The victim, identified as Nicola D. Colangelo, was a Passaic Valley High School student and lifelong Woodland Park resident. The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. near the intersection of Rose Place and McBride Avenue, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Woodland Park Police Chief Luigi DeLuca.
Details of the Accident
Authorities report that Colangelo was riding between traffic when his bicycle struck the rear passenger door of a 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
- Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
- The SUV driver remained on-site and is fully cooperating with authorities.

Woodland Park Mayor Tracy Kallert and borough officials expressed their deep sorrow, describing Colangelo as a beloved member of the community.
“Nicola was a lifelong resident of Woodland Park and a student at Passaic Valley High School. As the oldest of three, he was a pillar of love and support for his brother and sister. He had a vibrant spirit, infectious kindness, and a remarkable sense of humor.”

Passaic Valley Regional High School issued a statement offering thoughts and prayers to Nicola’s family. The school’s crisis management team, composed of social workers, psychologists, and counselors, is available to support grieving students.
Superintendent Bracken Healy added:
“Nicola will be remembered for his infectious smile, his kindheartedness, and his genuine sense of humor.”
