  1. 8:25AM…?

Visibility should not have been a problem.

Personally speaking, I’m not walking anywhere near traffic during commuting hours. I’ll walk in the woods or in the park.

    1. Ridgewood PD should park a patrol car on Northern Parkway just off Linwood and hand out tickets all day long to the multitudes of people who blow through that crosswalk even when pedestrians have activated the crossing signal. I have had cars speed by me 3-4 times in situations like this. The money they would make from tickets alone could lower taxes and it might have prevented this incident.

      1. No, it wouldn’t, but I get your point.

  2. I came upon the scene just after EMT/Ambulance/Police arrived. An elderly woman was the driver of the car that hit the woman. If you take into consideration that there is no warning that the crosswalk is coming up, the fact that cars do well over the speed limit on that straightaway, and that there was an elderly woman both driving and walking across the road, that is the perfect storm for a pedestrian accident. I often wonder why there are no regular speed patrols on Linwood, Monroe, N Maple, Glen and other major roads that take people in and out of our town. Often in the morning, once I pass BF school on Glen, the car behind me rides my tail trying to force me well over the speed limit as it heads for the entrance to 17S. I will go up to about 28-29mph and I can sense the frustration of the car behind me as it tries to urge me to go faster. This happens nearly every single day. I often wonder why we don’t have speed patrols in this spot, there would be multiple tickets issued daily. It may only take 1 ticket for cars to learn that they need to slow down. Frequent Speeders seeing someone pulled over will teach them that the area is patrolled and they should slow down. A shame that a pedestrian accident occurred yesterday. There is much that can be done at that busy pedestrian crossing. I hope that the town acts quickly and doesn’t fall back on the whole country road excuse.

    1. I have knowledge of the accident and in this case speed was NOT a factor.

    2. Just to be clear, if you drive ‘well over the speed limit’ at ‘about 28-29mph”, you too are speeding and will be ticked as well under your enforcement scenario. You must be a democrat since your hypocrisy is obvious, as usual. Rules for thee, not me.

    3. Great comments

      Linwood Avenue South from Walthery
Avenue side street down to ROUTE 17
is a disgrace of uneven Potholed Road surfaces &
Hot Patch alley ;and despite it being a State road there is no excuse despite the
mild winter the plows gouge out the hot patches set up for ice and demolition derby swerving to save your suspension and blown out front tires. Utility works been done : STATE MILL AND PAVE THIS ROAD by March 1 2023

  3. the lady just walked across without looking

    1. It’s a crosswalk and the speed limit is 25 mph. It is no different than the CBD. There is no excuse.

      1. How do you know that speed was an issue? Did you witness this? It would be an important point to make if you had.

    2. Did you witness this, Ruth? If you did, that would be a good point to have made.

  4. Did she survive?

  5. Although unlikely, perhaps the driver was distracted (or badly shaken up) by the terrible road conditions and potholes that have plagued Linwood Avenue for years. This COUNTY road is a travesty.

I suggest that it is likely that this very BUSY intersection, at this time of the day and at a significant bend in the road, may have had multiple cars entering or exiting simultaneously, distracting the driver. This has happened to me on numerous occasions at different intersections. Most likely it’s just a terrible accident, and not necessarily with ‘speed’ being a factor, especially with an elderly driver. Let the investigation be completed before disparaging all drivers and assuming ‘speed’ was the cause.

  6. How do you know that speed was an issue? Did you witness this? It would be an important point to make if you had.

  7. People drive like selfish lunatics

    1. It was an ELDERLY female driver! An obvious selfish lunatic.
