Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police, Fire, and EMS personnel responded to aid a pedestrian who was struck at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and Oak Street on Tuesday night, 12/06. The victim, who appeared to have sustained non-life threatening injuries, was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital. The driver of the vehicle involved was driving westbound on East Ridgewood Avenue at the time of the incident, and remained at the scene to cooperate with police officers assigned to investigate the collision.
Can you please do a study on whether we have a higher percentage of pedestrians struck than other towns? It seems to me that it has been happening a lot lately, unfortunately.
Pedestrians having the right of way has led to an expectation that cars will stop. That works well when the cars stop. Not so well when they don’t. Would be interested if moving to cars having right of way would reduce these incidents.
At this point I’m afraid to walk across the street in broad daylight inside a crosswalk with a green light or a little white walking man sign!
Its so Dark at dusk now..most people wearing Dark outerwear ESP from the train commuters..pedestrians be aware..assume they won’t stop…because they won’t.
This town’s streets are dark, inadequate lighting especially the main streets. Add to this a lot of elderly driving and you have a nightmare scenario. Light up the streets and intersections at least in CBD.
I cross without looking.
I’d rather be legally in the right than alive.
I guess 25 doesn’t save lives… let’s lower the speed limit to 5mph
.
Better yet, lets BAN ALL CARS in the ENTIRE VILLAGE of Ridgewood.
.
Yeah, that’s the ticket…
.
“If it can save just one life…..”
.
Young children and adolescents even in groups are also in danger.VOR POLICE get out of your SUVs
Be present …checking license and registrations while pedestrians are in peril makes no sense. The crosswalks
are not managed from a compliance perspective .mid block crosswalk at the Library is a death trap.
12:50 quite frankly the elderly drivers to whom you refer are more cautious than the young ‘uns who are texting and talking and blasting their radios and have ear buds in.
Pedestrians need to look before they jump into the street. If a few more of them get knocked over like bowling pins they might be more careful.
7.55 in a logical world your comment would make more sense.
Trouble is that cars moving at a higher speed and mass inflict so much damage and realizing that children and adolescents are more at risk especially in darker winter and rain reduced visibility.they need to give right of way to pedestrians crossing corners and both parties need to be retrained to put that phone away.Lives at Risk.
2:59 if then ban all cars in Ridgewood – no one would have to worry about parking!
