Ridgewood NJ, when a person suffers cardiac arrest, every minute that passes can make a huge difference. Fortunately for a Village resident in his 40s, Ridgewood Police Officers Miguel Torres and Jeff Casson were nearby the YMCA on Monday night.

While on patrol on Oak Street, Officer Torres was flagged down by someone reporting that a male party had collapsed inside of the gymnasium at the YMCA. Officer Casson happened to be nearby and responded to the situation as well. Both officers were on scene within moments and able to take over CPR that had been started by a bystander. After applying and shocking the man with a defibrillator, the officers continued CPR until a pulse was detected and the patients eyes opened.
“The Ridgewood Police Department is thankful for the quick thinking bystanders that assisted and alerted our officers when minutes mattered. We commend Officers Casson and Torres for their quick actions and are grateful for such a good outcome.”
I left the Y at 6PM…I must have just missed the incident.
Good job guys
I know the dude – young father and a very good guy. Happy he is OK. Monday old mans hoop game at the Y….Great work by all involved.
Why did no one at the Y know how to do Lifesaving measures? Shouldn’t a place that operates a pool and gym and kiddie camp be able to cover that without people having to run out to the street?
That place is a dump.
