Reader asks did administrators and teachers “walk to school” for the month of October ?

Ridgewood NJ, Since October was named “Walk to school month” many readers have inquired if teachers and administrators have practiced what they preached ?

Did Superintendent Dan Fishbien or members of the BOE walk to the Ed Center ? Did they join the Ridgewood School community in celebrating Walk-tober Fest! Taking some time this month to promote health, safety and the environment by walking to school – or just simply taking a walk. Keeping motorists away from school campuses will create a safer environment for students who choose to walk or ride their bikes to school.

Did they foloow there own advice as advertised that “walking to school promotes safety, health, concern for the environment and physical activity.”

Few people know how to take a walk. The qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes, an eye for nature, good humor, vast curiosity, good speech, good silence and nothing too much.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Inquiring minds would like to know??

  1. You must be kidding.

  2. What a dumb post. Most teachers and administrators do not live in town with a short walk to their school building.

  3. so i take it from comments number one and number two that the teachers and administrators and BOE members didn’t participate ,

  4. DO ASK I SAY NOT AS I DO

  5. Chronic Complainer

  6. Did anyone ask if the out of district teachers’ children – who are getting a free Ridgewood education – walked to school?

  7. Many live too far, but I know of a couple who could easily walk but always drive. Is four blocks (max) too far to walk?

  8. We have neighborhood schools and that means that they are walkable – except for the Hawes kids on the other side of 17. The kids should walk to school. Who knows where the teachers live. If they are in the school’s district they should walk, otherwise leave them alone.
