“Do you think that the Village Council will ever show proof of only clean dirt, rocks, junk being dumped at that site? The new apartments are over old car body shops, repair shops, and a gasoline station. This includes the ENTIRE area being used for it’s filthy, contaminated dirt. They have already shown that they don’t care enough about children to put a crushed coconut field in at the high school instead of the cheaper–and much more dangerous/contaminated as many studies show–crushed tire.”

“They don’t care what the future Schedler field and walking area is composed of just as long as it is cheap! Unfortunately, since they are allowing it to be dumped–along with giant rocks and visible litter–anywhere BUT the berm–it’s going to cost as much and much more environmental damage as they scrape it from where it has been dumped. The providers of “the free soil” will no longer be responsible for placing it and Ridgewood will pay through the nose to put it in the correct location. Apparently no one has been delegated to oversee this whole mess and prevent dumping in places where it will all have to be moved and allowing large rocks to be dumped which will have to be moved into the berm or removed–all at Ridgewood’s cost and total destruction of the ground or possible relics below. They are determined to save the house which is probably no longer saveable as the porch and roof have already torn away from the house and that is all you can see from the street so there could be similar damage in other areas. It has been left alone so that the carpenter ants which are very prevalent on this side of town may have made the inside as bad as the out. “

  1. According to last night’s Village Council meeting, the soil is “satisfactory.” Soil came from multiple sites and wasn’t entirely free. As per Village Slimgineer, there was a cost associated even though Village staff and developers (who saved a fortune on disposing said soil legally) did all the work.

  2. Is anyone shocked. We are not.

  3. Should never have built on the seven acres of Schedler. The council will say dirt is clean; that is what “dirty Joisey” means.

  4. Still looking for proof that all that polluted land is actually “SAFE”. “Satisfactory” means no-one has any idea so thus can’t post any certificate of any kind of purity. It also means, “It had to be removed so we rushed to claim it and we have absolutely NO IDEA what’s really in it! After all, if the Council happily accepts the cheaper tire fill for the replacement of the High School field KNOWING FULL WELL IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TOXIC IN MANY STUDIES, they certainly can’t concern themselves about all the oil, gas and whatever toxic materials in this nice, cheap soil. so much easier than paying for certified “clean fill”! And we are all eagerly awaiting proof that this isn’t just another Wizard of OZ pulling the curtain (The whole Council and BOE are extremely skilled at this.) to try to hide the truth. They have already shown us many times that they think the citizens of Ridgewood are all stupid–and will believe anything they say. NOT!!

    1. the council has nothing to do with the high school , that’s the BOE , and crumb rubber may not be cheaper

  5. They are all over there head in this project.

  6. If the VC can’t handle a pile of dirt and a grass field,
just wait until the GINORMOUS GARAGE gets started….

    good times…

  7. Might as well dig up the Town Garage and move that mess over there as well.
How is nothing being done about that eyesore??

  8. Anonomous, well said! You are spot on. What can be done about all of it? We need action against these so called stewards.

  9. Did it occur to any of you assholes that James and Boyd are not elected officials, do not work for the village, and do not even live in that area?

  10. Wow, Jeff Voigt and his loser friend (of which there is only one) are busy posting trash.

  11. Why do people call out other people by name and then sign off as Anonymous?

There is no reason to believe – much less proof – that any of that soil is contaminated. If you don’t believe it, call Rutishauser’s office and find out the details of the certification. If it were bad, I’m pretty sure I can count on that neighborhood to take to the streets… Just claiming that and typing scary sounding false charges is irresponsible. BTW if you can find proof of that PLEASE forward it to me.

And unless there’s something I/we don’t know, the town DOESN’T OWN the Town Garage – at least they didn’t last I heard. The owner is responsible for any remediation – and then only if it’s dug up or moved around, I believe. Maybe an environmental lawyer could answer that and whether action can be taken against the owner – that needs some research but I don’t know how you can fault the town for that. If you’ve heard something I haven’t, please let me know.

  12. Well all I can say is I look forward to the day that Boyd and James are on the council because that will mean Honesty and Integrity will rule the day. But for now they are not. And Jane Shinozuka RULES, she is so smart and so not-anonymous.

  13. no , it the highway silly

  14. Denise Pierce Lima posting lies on the CENSORED facebook page, stating categorically that the soil is tainted and toxic. Really Denise? Prove it. Stop trying to make a name for yourself by telling lies.

  15. Classic Knudsen deflection. Maybe the original soil for the golden berm was certified as clean fill. What about these new piles of dirt being dumped by the developers from the old gasoline stations and car dealers? Please tell us where we can find the paperwork certifying that as clean soil? And what about the eagles ? What happened to them? I thought it was a federal crime to disturb eagle habitats, right James?

  16. I am indeed a proponent of protecting Schedler from inappropriate overdevelopment. When I joined the LWV I was happy to learn that they studied the subject in detail and hold a position on it. I always listened carefully to Isabella when she talked about the value of its preservation and I trusted her judgement. Additionally, I live an adjacent neighborhood and so I know what their neighborhood is talking about when they act to protect themselves. They have very good reason to be concerned – the property is right on the highway and its natural density is/was their only buffer to all that goes with that. They worked with the town and agreed on a mutually acceptable park plan that includes a playing field, so clearly you haven’t been following closely enough to do anything but state a falsehood in order to foster bad feeling. That and saying the soil is contaminated, without actually knowing if it is or not, is just bad (local) citizenship. Most people in town – even some who pontificate about it- have no idea where it is, let alone ever actually seen the property with their own eyes.

I’m sure if you call the engineer’s office and ask for details regarding the contamination certification you can get them. You’d be doing us all a favor if you actually discovered trouble and let us know. I hope that never becomes the case.

Whoever is having a conniption about the eagles – I can’t help you… but I do know there were people in the neighborhood who had proof of valid wildlife concerns.

    1. eagles were in roberta’s report
