Reader asks, What do you expect from this group of self loathing, wannabe Ridgewoodites

What do you expect from this group of self loathing, wannabe Ridgewoodites- – this is the same group of people attacking the Catholic Church in town by claiming it paid a cash bribe to the Mayor to stop the town from building a six story garage in the in the middle of Hudson street. These people have no moral decency or moral core.

These vicious attacks by the Willet / Harwin puppet masters detract us from the real issues. Read the first post about Valley wanting to rezone all of its properties as housing projects. Where do the candidates stand on these substantive issues that threaten our housing prices and will drive up our tax payments?

I would like each candidate to state where they stand on turning all of Valley’s current properties in Ridgewood into apartment projects. Or any other substantive issue for that matter. I don’t need to hear them attack (throughout surrogates) the ability of our police and fire department employers to run into a burning building or tangle with a burglar.

  1. This is a good point by the original poster. There is no “prior years of residency” requirement for a Village Council candidate, but damned if it doesn’t benefit not only the candidate but also the entire local electorate for the candidate to know recent Village political history by first hand experience. So much pointless and preposterous political behavior has been observed, pointed out, and punished in Ridgewood in the recent past. Candidates who have only recently moved to Ridgewood might be tempted to engage in similar behavior, thinking “But those previous candidates and officeholders are not me. I’m just that good, I’m just that slick, I’m just that smooth, that I’ll get away with it.” That very mindset, so common among those who consider themselves members of the progressive elite, is now a recipe for small scale political disaster in Ridgewood.

  2. If only the Catholic Church actually did pay to stop the garage. That would be great. Sadly the church did absolutely nothing to stop the garage.

  3. Wish the church would respond to the accusations and not leave Susan to do it all. Surely it’s as insulting to be accused of giving a bribe as of taking one. But honestly, the group making the accusation (over and over for years) is setting the bar awfully low.

  4. I can see a church not wanting to get involved in refuting the baseless allegation that it rigged a Sunday morning raffle to deliver a bribe to a sitting council member, which appears to be what the Willet / Harwin supporters are telling people. , But I don’t see why current and former council members are not speaking up to put an end to nonsensical or erroneous allegations. It takes more than one council member to derail a motion. So, the allegations of the Willet / Harwin supporters must extend to the rest of the council as well, right? Who else do they believe the Church approached to pay the bribe? Anyone? Or are these allegations simply false?
I would like each of the current and former councili members to speak up and denounce the Willet / Harwin supporters who are spreading these falsehoods. Or, admit openly or through their silence that either they were bribed too or that perhaps, just perhaps, the allegations of the Willet / Harwin supporters are an absolute lie.

  5. Just plain stupid. I doubt the Catholic Church would bribe any one and the garage is coming. So the accusations are ridiculous. Is that all willet and Harwin have on their side is to lie about the Catholic Church’?? That is a disgrace. It’s obvious they have no respect for religion!

  6. Also, Willet and Harwin should step up and denounce any supporters spreading these falsehoods!

    1. they wont that’s who there supporters are

  7. Well. as ,much as we all want to focus on the issues – – this question should be posted on every web page and raised at every coffee and public encounter. If Willet and Harwin’s supporters endorsed this apparent attack on the Church, why can’t the duo step up and say something about it? It is totally beyond the pale that anyone should imply a church raffle influenced a council member’s vote.

  8. Accusing your adversary of doing something that you yourself are doing, or would do in a heartbeat if it would help you gain or hold power. Don’t psychiatrists have a word for this?

  9. Projection, 9:44. Well, we will have an opportunity to ask them point blank at the League of Women Voters Candidates’ Debate on Monday, April 30. Come and bring challenging questions.
