I said there is no net gain, because there is no net gain. In the case of Brogan, those spaces are being lost because the Council majority approved the introduction of ordinances which allow for development of the property. That same majority is touting a net gain in total number of parking spaces due to this garage plan; they’ve conveniently forgotten about the lost spaces at Brogan caused by their approval of development there. And you seem to have conveniently forgotten about the loss of street spots on Hudson Street. If the garage is full of those who now park at Brogan and Ken Smith, and who could perhaps park there for years if it were not for the Council majority’s rush for massive development, where’s the net gain for use by shoppers and restaurant patrons? I oppose this plan because it is asinine, expensive, and nothing more than a shoot from the hip attempt buying the good will of and future campaign contributions from major property owners in the Village.
They’d be better off spending their time and energy trying to line up more private/public partnerships – there are still more private parcels where cars could be parked. Reportedly, the gas station at 10 Godwin Avenue is about to close. There’s a huge opportunity right there.
What ever happen to our Mayor friend down at the county who were going to help. More bull.
It will be viewed as a place to park of absolute last resort, and that’s only for those that HAVE to park, such as commuters. Diners and shoppers will circle the block and if no spaces are available (very rare), they will go elsewhere. Diners and shoppers eat and shop in Ridgewood because of the Ridgewood ambiance. A multi-story parking garage is definitely not Ridgewood ambiance.
Like I’ve said before, I can see people in a few years, walking/driving past the garage (the garage that now has weeds growing in it), and saying, “what were they thinking?”
way to screw over the residents with major increase in parking fees (meter fees and longer paid parking times) and the addition of this ugly structure and its associated massive costs to the taxpayers.
thanks to all the idiots (and that is a nice word) who voted these destructive people into office.
Former mayor, Pat Mancuso thought a second tier at several locations would better fit the parking needs of the people. A parking garage will need an attendant and regular police monitoring. I thought it was a good idea.
