“I drive up and down this road every morning as I take my kid to school. It is fine. I have done it for years and never had a problem. It is a big time saving shortcut. It mostly serves upper RW, HHK sees no benefit from using it. I have never heard of anyone head on collisions, people getting hit etc. Drivers respect each other most of the time. If the problem is with commercial drivers then just put a huge sign that says “No commercial driving. Fine $500. ” and that’s that. And police can also survey the area more often for violators. Closing either direction is just stupid. It fixes NOTHING and only creates problems. Those who can’t use the road anymore will fly down Maple to compensate for the time lost by nor being able to use the shortcut. Knuckleheads will be knuckleheads no matter how much you try to control them.
@Felipe. Majority of HHK station parking lot is used by RW residents.”
The stats used by the state were obtained when Glen avenue was closed for the PSEG pipe upgrade that forced big trucks to find alternate routes. I’d bet it was the REASON NJDOT would not allow PSEG to excavate W. Glen ave under the trestle for the gas pipe upgrade, which required a longer road closure to ‘push’ pipes underneath. THEN they used this TIME to promote their agenda, which was to close Glenwood by forcing truck traffic off w.glen WITHOUT proper Temporary signage indicating the weight limits on that road. The only time there was temporary proper signage was the few days waldwick PD did some details at the intersection of w.glen and monroe with their temporary sign. The bureacrats at NJ DOT scammed us on this one BIG TIME. I have lived here and driven that hill since the late 1960s and its a very RARE occasion that a truck requires assistance after IGNORING the signs. PS.. The dumb ass village sign was 1/2 down the hill so a truck wouldnt read it until IT WAS ALREADY stuck. Its since been moved to a more appropriate location. So if the bureacrats at the state are successful with this stupid proposal, RPD will need to add a permanent post on W. glen ave to deal with all of the accidents of vehicles making left turns onto w. glen after heading south on Upper Blvd, Hillcrest, and Heights, all of who would otherwise use the glenwood road crossing. The traffic at the intersection of maple and w. glen will be backed up with all the extra traffic. Its bad enough now that the traffic eastbound is backed up to oak street on w. glen during busy times. Actions have consequences. Most don’t recall when the state shut down the racetrack road light/exit on RT 17, it displaced all that traffic into the walthery ave neighborhood from linwood to glen. that used to be a nice quiet street. now they have signs prohibiting RH turns from linwood west into walthery, pershing etc for the after 4pm time. This bone headed idea will displace an orderly flow of traffic *except for the few morons who cant drive* and create problems elsewhere
Agree with Feb 6 Anonymous. This road has been in use for more than 200 years. Closing it is stupid. 40 years ago when the state had to repair the bridge over the Waldwick RR tracks this was the detour route. Closing it is stupid. The biggest problem is enforcement. People stopping at or on tracks to discharge passengers, trucks that are over the limit, idiots who don’t know how to drive slowing down on an uphill grade causing following cars to get stuck on the tracks, etc.
Make it one way.!!!!!!!!
Make it one way. I have driven on it and I have seen the trucks ( and prom bus) get stuck.
It is just a shortcut for Ridgewood residents. HoHoKus residents don’t need it.
Your cars have power steering. Just drive Around it for one of the directions. It is not a hardship. Stop whining
