Ridgewood has had controversial elections before but what is being produced by a candidate who hasn’t lived here long enough to know anything about Ridgewood is absolutely nothing but scandalous, probably illegal, libel. I actually feel sorry for her husband and the members of his Temple. I am sure they, or most of them, are as embarrassed by having to witness this behavior as I am. I am normally in favor of letting every person have their say, but this is so indescribable that I can definitely see some limitations should be placed on free speech when it consists of nothing but libel and scandalous statements created only out of the mind of one person when no fact is behind them. There is no way that an Easter Bunny or placing flags on graves can be considered evil behavior. I do believe that Alexandra misunderstood her political classes or transformed what they said to the evil her mind has become.
And who should we appoint as the arbiter of what can be said?
Harwin is spewing pure garbage at this point – – I wonder what her response would have been if someone had accused her of taking benefits from her Temple the way that her campaign accused Knudsen of taking benefits from her Church? Some “civil rights” lawyer who is going to look out for the rights of all citizens..
I’ve noticed that some of our neighbors have taken the Harwin sign off their lawn. Good for them – I really have to wonder about any family that still has one.
Agree Ridgewood Taxpayer. The sad fact of limiting free speech by the government is that it could be used unpredictably.
I really don’t like the tactics in the mailer Harwin sent out, but remember the reference about Nazis she is pointing out came from THIS blog. Why are you not condemning the source of this ugliness? If you don’t like it from a candidate, then DON’T LIKE IT from a blog that has the name of our village in it. I am not coming to this blog anymore because it is one of the most negative collections of stories in our village and perpetuates hostility. If you thinks that’s okay, then you’re part of the problem.

I see my neighbors replacing their Knudsen signs with Confederate flags.

I’m a fan of encouraging stupid public speech. Makes it easier to sort who to pay attention to and who to ignore. We know Halaby is to be never listened to, Hans has to be barred from public service, Harwin is to be held accountable by her husband’s house of worship, and Voigt is a hypocrite and a danger to the fiscal well being of the village. See? It is helpful.
